Walter Stomps Abstract Gouache Painting

An abstract gouache painting by the American artist Walter Stomps (1929-2020). This work depicts an array of red and blue ellipse shapes floating against a background of yellow and purple brushwork. Signed to the verso of the paper, the painting is displayed in a gold tone wooden frame and a white mat. Walter Stomps, Jr. was a modernist artist who explored the connectivity through music and art in his work. He rejected the rigid nature of realism, instead using color, shape, and rhythmic brushstrokes to create abstraction.   Measurements: 12.75” W x 14.5” H x .75” D (frame); 9.25” W x 11” H (sight).
