Walnut Grove Ashtray Wall Art

A high quality art print of an ashtray from the Walnut Grove Restaurant, San Juan Capistrano, California. Vintage, circa 1950s. Framed in 3/8" extruded aluminum metal. Made in the USA. The Walnut Grove Restaurant was started in 1946 by three Long Beach motorcycle cops and their wives - Fred L., John A., Lorraine Newhart, Lucille Janton, and Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Harvey. It was located at 32065 State Highway 101. The restaurant was a diner that had 18 seats and a gas station. Eventually, the other owners would exit the business, leaving the Newharts as the only owners. The restaurant served American classics such as pot roast and meatloaf, and would expand into a bakery. Hollywood stars would frequent the restaurant but maybe for the wrong reasons as it was shut down due to gambling in 1951. They notably had slots in their back room! The restaurant grew to have a second location in the mid-1950s that closed not too long after its opening, but the original survived and thrived, moving to a larger location at 26871 Ortega Highway. In 1979, the restaurant caught fire. In 1994, the original owner Fred Newhart Jr. passed away. Ben and Sharon Newhart operated the restaurant in the 1990s onward. The Walnut Grove Restaurant would eventually close in 2005, leaving a legacy of incredible dinners for travelers going to-and-fro from San Diego and Orange County.
