Wally’s Cave

High above Cape Town, South Africa, towers Lion’s Head peak. Situated between Table Mountain and Signal Hill, Lion’s Head features a relatively easy 2.6-mile hiking trail loop that rewards visitors with an unparalleled view of the city below and the ocean beyond. For those who know to venture off the marked path, Wally’s Cave is a “secret” destination popular with paraglider and other thrill-seekers. Unfortunately, this area is now closed to the public due to erosion and safety concerns. Luckily, Justin had the opportunity to see this breathtaking view above Cape Town from Wally’s Cave before it was closed to visitors.“We were in South Africa for 18 days. We landed in Johannesburg and were driving 9 or 10 hours a day. We drove over 3,500 miles on some of the most brutal dirt roads you could imagine—way worse than we have in Montana. “Our trip ended in Cape Town, and we were all really beat up and tired. It was raining really hard the last morning we were there. We’d planned to hike Lion’s Head and visit Wally’s Cave.It was like 3:30 or 4a.m., and we couldn’t decide if we should go out or not. We decided to pull the trigger and we headed out. “We ended up hiking through the rain and clouds and came out above the clouds, and we were totally blown away. It was just before sunrise, so we kinda hung out and waited and the sun came up and popped through and really made things epic.”
