About Walking on Water A note from Mark Mabry Most of us know the moment. When we say to ourselves, "I don't know if I can do this, but for some reason I feel like I should." A career pivot. A marriage worth fighting for. A surgery date. A hard apology. A move that looks irrational on paper. Walking on Water is about taking that step. The step you take with no idea what comes next. Jesus is teaching us to rethink what is possible. People send me notes about what the image does in their homes. "I'm a mess," one wrote. "I feel the sand sinking underneath me SO, SO often. My steps are often unstable. If in my tough times my steps are still like Jesus', then it encourages me to not give up." Another collector said, "The splashes and the wet, kind-of-dirty robe are why I have it on my wall. A reminder that He willingly comes where we are, even if it's messy." The vision for this image arrived in a recording studio. I was listening to a cellist and a pianist work out a hymn for the Reflections of Christ gallery score. There was no budget for another shoot. No plan. Then as the room filled with music and spirit, I could not sit still, and by the end of the song I was sketching out the vision for Walking on Water. Painters have been rendering this scene for two thousand years. Each century reaches for the same moment with the tools it has. I had no idea on the shoot day what this picture would do or where it might sit in the history of Christian art, but Reflections of Christ's Walking on Water has the privilege of being a 'first'. When families starting hanging Walking on Water in their homes, the Christian art world quietly adopted photography. Walking on Water is the image that did it... with special thanks of course to the thousands of people who have shared photos and posts and moments with guests in their home. "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." (Matthew 14:27, NKJV) The aerial view of the same chapter, with Peter on his feet between the boat and the Savior, lives in Eyes on Jesus. The companion image that launched alongside Walking on Water is Resurrection. Walking on Water also lives in the Christian wall art collection. Common questions What scene does Walking on Water depict? Matthew 14:25. Jesus alone, walking on the sea, at the fourth watch of the night. The face is intentionally never shown. The image holds the act of walking, not the portrait. Is Walking on Water a painting? It is a photograph. People often search for "Jesus walking on water painting" because that has been the dominant medium for two thousand years. Reflections of Christ's Walking on Water is the photograph that helped Christian art photography earn its place on the wall. Where does Walking on Water look best in a home? Most collectors hang it above a bed, in a living room, or on a quiet hallway wall. The image asks for room around it. It does not need a gallery wall. It is its own gallery. What sizes and formats is Walking on Water available in? Available as a fine art print, framed canvas, and limited edition. Size and frame options are above this section. Who is Walking on Water for? For the person standing at the edge of a hard decision. For the family that wants Christ on the wall without a portrait of His face. For the home that needs an image of trust more than an image of certainty.
