W12K9D2 V3

The K9 series just got better. More cooling. More abuse tolerance. Same price. The Rockville W12K9D2 V3 is a 12" dual 2-ohm car subwoofer built for bassheads who push their equipment hard. The V3 brings three targeted upgrades over the V2 — a Punisher-series dustcap, an inner dustcap to block heat buildup, and a voice coil spacer — all designed to keep the voice coil cooler under sustained high-power use. The result: more power handling, longer life, and cleaner bass at the limit. Why You'll Love It 4000W peak / 2000W program / 1000W RMS — serious power handling for daily drivers and competition builds 3" 4-layer voice coil on black aluminum former — wound with USA-made OFC wire; stable up to 240°C Double-stacked 190 oz magnet — high BL motor gap for precise cone control and maximum efficiency Punisher-series polypropylene dustcap — ultra-stiff, same spec as Rockville's flagship Punisher series Inner dustcap + optimized pole vent — blocks heat buildup in the voice coil during bass-heavy tracks and test tones Voice coil spacer — improves longevity and performance consistency under extreme use Cast aluminum basket with black sanded finish — lighter weight, more efficient, and visually sharp Ultra-stiff non-pressed paper cone with thick foam surround — minimal distortion, maximum output Nomex spider — tear-resistant and more durable than standard cotton or poly-cotton spiders Vented T-yoke — additional heat dissipation path for the voice coil Red stitching cone reinforcement — extends cone life and adds visual detail Custom rubber boot magnet cover + mounting gasket — protects the magnet and ensures an airtight seal Dual 2-ohm voice coils — wire in parallel for 1 ohm or in series for 4 ohms Fits sealed or ported enclosures — flexible for any build Perfect For Daily drivers who want deep, clean bass Bassheads who push subs hard with test tones or bass-heavy music Builds running a 1-ohm or 4-ohm mono amplifier Sealed or ported enclosure installs Anyone upgrading from a K9 V2 or comparable sub What's in the Box Rockville W12K9D2 V3 12" dual 2-ohm subwoofer Custom mounting gasket Chrome-plated binding post terminals Rubber boot magnet cover Specifications Power: 4000W peak / 2000W program / 1000W RMS Impedance: Dual 2-ohm (1 ohm parallel / 4 ohm series) Voice coil: 3" 4-layer, black aluminum former, USA-made OFC wire Magnet: Double-stacked 190 oz Cone: Ultra-stiff non-pressed paper Dustcap: Polypropylene (Punisher series spec) Spider: Nomex Surround: Thick foam Frequency response: 33 Hz – 1.5 kHz Sensitivity: 83 dB XMAX: 28 mm Cutout diameter: 11.13" Mounting depth: 6.85" Sealed enclosure volume: 0.9 – 1.47 cu ft Ported enclosure volume: 1.8 – 2.75 cu ft Weight: 28.67 lbs Available in 1-pack and 2-pack. The V3 addresses the one area where high-power users pushed it to its limits: heat management at the voice coil. Three specific changes were made: Punisher-series dustcap: The outer dustcap was upgraded to the same ultra-stiff polypropylene unit used in Rockville's flagship Punisher series. This improves rigidity and reduces cone breakup at high excursion levels. Inner dustcap + optimized pole vent: An inner dustcap was added directly over the voice coil gap. Combined with a refined pole vent diameter, this traps less hot air inside the motor structure and allows heat to dissipate more efficiently. The result is a measurably cooler voice coil during sustained bass-heavy playback or test tones — the two scenarios most likely to cause thermal failure. Voice coil spacer: A precision spacer was added to the voice coil assembly to improve gap alignment and reduce the chance of the coil rubbing during extreme excursion. This directly improves longevity and performance consistency when the sub is pushed to its limits. 3" Voice Coil — USA-Made OFC Wire, 240°C Rated The 3" 4-layer voice coil is wound on a black aluminum former using OFC (oxygen-free copper) wire manufactured in the USA. OFC wire has lower resistance and better conductivity than copper-clad aluminum (CCA) wire, which is commonly used in budget subwoofers. The aluminum former dissipates heat faster than paper or Kapton formers. The coil is rated stable up to 240°C — significantly above the operating temperatures reached even during aggressive use — which is why this sub can handle sustained high-power input without voice coil failure. Double-Stacked 190 oz Magnet — BL and Efficiency The double-stacked 190 oz magnet assembly creates a high BL (force factor) value, which is the product of the magnetic flux density and the length of wire in the gap. A higher BL means the motor exerts more force on the cone per amp of input current — translating to tighter, more controlled bass with better transient response. The cast aluminum basket is designed to maximize the efficiency of this motor structure while keeping the overall weight lower than a comparable steel basket design. Dual 2-Ohm Wiring Options The W12K9D2 V3 has two independent 2-ohm voice coils. Wiring them in parallel gives a 1-ohm final impedance — the load at which most modern mono amplifiers produce their maximum rated power. Wiring them in series gives a 4-ohm final impedance — useful for amplifiers that aren't stable at 1 ohm or for multi-sub configurations. This flexibility makes the W12K9D2 V3 compatible with virtually any mono subwoofer amplifier on the market. Enclosure Recommendations For sealed enclosures, the recommended volume is 0.9 to 1.47 cubic feet. Sealed boxes produce tighter, more accurate bass with better transient response — preferred for music genres where bass definition matters more than raw output. For ported/vented enclosures, the recommended volume is 1.8 to 2.75 cubic feet. Ported boxes produce louder, deeper bass at the tuning frequency — preferred for maximum SPL and genres like hip-hop and EDM where low-frequency extension is the priority.
