The Whirlpool Dryer Lint Screen catches lint and small debris as air moves through the dryer. It helps keep airflow open so clothes dry as expected. You remove it for routine cleaning, then reinstall it to keep lint from reaching the blower housing and vent path. Important Compatibility Note: Part number W11778253 is the current manufacturer-approved replacement for the following discontinued part number(s): W11607443, WPW10717210. If your appliance documentation or old part uses any of these numbers, this is the correct, updated component for your repair. Failure often comes from physical damage or poor fit. The frame can warp from heat, the mesh can tear, or the handle can crack. Heavy buildup can also harden on the screen and restrict airflow. A lint screen that does not seat flat can let lint bypass the filter and collect inside the dryer. These symptoms can help you decide if replacing the lint screen may solve the problem: The screen is torn, punctured, or separating from the frame. The screen is warped and will not sit flush in the housing. The handle is cracked, loose, or broken and the screen is hard to remove. Lint is getting past the screen and collecting in the lint duct area. Drying times increase because the screen surface stays clogged even after cleaning.
