The Whirlpool Spray Arm distributes water during the wash and rinse cycles by spinning under water pressure and directing spray through small jet holes. This action helps remove food soil from dishes and move water to different areas of the rack. Important Compatibility Note: Part number W10491331 is the current manufacturer-approved replacement for the following discontinued part number(s): W10837249. If your appliance documentation or old part uses any of these numbers, this is the correct, updated component for your repair. Common failures come from clogged jet holes, cracks or splits in the arm body, worn seals at the mounting point, or debris in the hub that prevents smooth rotation. Heat and repeated impacts from tall items can also deform the arm and change the spray pattern. If wash performance has changed, these symptoms may indicate the spray arm is the source of the problem: Dishes come out with grit, food residue, or soap film after a full cycle Upper or lower rack items clean poorly compared to the other rack Spray arm does not spin freely by hand or feels stuck during rotation Visible cracks, warping, or missing pieces on the spray arm Water spraying unevenly or leaving dry spots on dishes Rattling, ticking, or knocking sounds as the arm contacts dishes or the rack Debris lodged in the spray holes or inside the arm body
