VIBURNUM PRUNIFOLIUM-Blackhaw Viburnum

Category:Shrub Breeder:American Beauties Native Plants Hardiness Zone:3-9 Height:12-15 ft Spread:6-12 ft Bloom Color:White Shades Bold and aggressive, this upright growing shrub may even take on the form of a small tree in the landscape. It displays big, deep green foliage that emerges in early spring and provides the backdrop for big 4-5" diameter flattened heads of fragrant, creamy white flowers in mid May. Bluish-black berries are a prized late summer through winter food source for birds and small mammals, a convenient plus since this Viburnum is a favorite nesting plant for these same critters. Plant this selection singly or as a large area hedge in most any location since prunifolium tolerates shade and a wide range of soils from moist to dry. Plant it in a place where you can enjoy the red to purple fall foliage show that closes the growing season with a bang! » Flowers attract butterflies and other pollinators » Plants provide excellent nesting sites and cover for birds » Gragrant, creamy white flowers mid-May » Red-purple foliage contrasts with blue-black fruit in the fall » Berries attract birds and other wildlife in fall » Grows well in dry soil
