Vox AC-15 Hand-Wired Combo

The VOX AC15 Hand-Wired amplifier is a refined reimagining of the legendary British tone that defined an era. Drawing direct inspiration from pristine vintage AC15 and AC30 amps of the early 1960s, the VOX engineering team set out to faithfully recreate the sonic DNA that made those originals so sought after. The result is the AC Hand-Wired Series—crafted for purists who demand tonal integrity, responsive dynamics, and impeccable craftsmanship. At the heart of the AC15HW1 lies a true hand-wired turret board, just like the originals, which not only adds durability and serviceability but also contributes to the amp’s lively, organic feel. Every component placement is deliberate, ensuring signal purity and classic tonal behavior. To address the quirks of vintage tube amps, especially unwanted overtones known as ghost notes, VOX developed a new smoothing circuit. Rather than dulling the amp’s dynamic range, this elegant solution tames excess harmonics while preserving the lively touch sensitivity that defines the VOX sound. The amp is powered by a classic tube configuration—two ECC83s in the preamp stage, a pair of EL84s for power, and a GZ34 rectifier—to deliver the chime, saturation, and dynamic bloom players expect from a true vintage-style rig. A custom-wound output transformer, painstakingly developed over months of testing, enhances harmonic richness and ensures warm, musical breakup when pushed. The AC15HW1 also features a boutique-style spring reverb tank that adds natural depth and spaciousness, along with a rear-panel effects loop for seamless pedal integration without sacrificing clarity. For those who want more flexibility, a dedicated speaker out lets you connect external cabinets or load boxes for different tonal flavors or lower-volume setups. The amp is loaded with a 12" Celestion Alnico Blue speaker—a perfect match for the AC15’s tonal footprint—delivering shimmering highs, smooth midrange, and a warm, articulate low end. All of this is housed in a robust cabinet with a vintage-correct look and feel. Measuring just over 23 inches wide and tipping the scales at around 50 pounds, the AC15HW1 is built for the stage but refined enough for the studio. It’s a tribute to VOX’s golden age of amplification, merging meticulous vintage authenticity with modern versatility. Whether you’re chasing jangly cleans, rich overdrive, or dynamic crunch, this amp delivers the unmistakable VOX sound with stunning nuance and clarity.
