Voile Vector Touring Ski

94 mm All-Mountain Touring Ski Voile Vector Touring Ski Tourers who want an edge that holds on refrozen morning snow, and who would rather commit to a turn than pivot out of one, are the audience for the Voile Vector Touring Ski. A 127-94-111 mm shape at 171 cm keeps a long running length with minimal tail taper, and the 18.5 m radius at that length rewards a driven turn on firm surfaces. At 1,405 g per ski in a 171 the Voile Vector is the poplar-core build of that shape, damper than the paulownia Hyper version, and one of the Voile skis rated for telemark bindings. Expert Review Specifications verified against the manufacturer catalog for this model year. Ratings are our reading of the specs and are pending staff on-snow review. Is This the Right Ski for You? Best For Tourers and telemark skiers who ski firm snow, corn and mixed conditions, want 94 mm underfoot with real edge hold, and prefer poplar damping to the lightest climb weight. Consider Another Ski If You ski mostly deep snow, want a ski that pivots and smears, count grams on long ascents, or need a scale base for rolling approach terrain. Poplar under a single Voile Carbon-Weave layer gives the Voile Vector mass the Hyper build gives up, and that mass is what stops the ski skipping across wind board. Fiberglass patches reinforce the heel and toe mounting zones and Voile rates the Voile Vector for telemark bindings, which pairs well with a directional shape. The 154 cm at 119-90-105 mm and 1,165 g per ski keeps a genuinely narrow, quick option in the run for smaller skiers and steep terrain. Best Uses Spring corn and refrozen morning snow Ski mountaineering and technical descents Telemark setups on a directional shape Mixed-condition touring across the 90 to 98 mm run Skiers who prefer arcing turns to pivoting Ski Specialist's Advice The Voile Vector covers a wide span because Voile moves the sidecut with the length. A 154 is 119-90-105 mm on a 16.5 m radius at 1,165 g per ski, and a 184 is 133-98-116 mm on a 20 m radius at 1,680 g per ski, so the short end reads like a mountaineering ski and the long end like an all-mountain one. Take the longer size if edge hold at speed is what you are buying. The Voile Vector takes AT bindings and telemark bindings, with the fiberglass mounting patches supporting the tele option, and quiver killers void the Voile factory warranty. Boot center is marked on the topsheet with a Voile chart per length, so a mount needs no reinforcing plate. Match binding to your boot sole norm, size brakes to the waist at your length from 90 mm at 154 cm to 98 mm at 184 cm, and run skins at a 120 mm stock width. Ski crampons earn their place on a ski aimed at firm snow. Length and mount guidance built from the manufacturer size run. The Voile Vector runs poplar with one Carbon-Weave layer at 1,405 g per ski, the Voile HyperVector runs paulownia with two at 1,215 g. Take the Vector for damping and the telemark rating, the HyperVector for 190 g per ski less on the climb. Shop Voile HyperVector skis Voile Vector vs. Voile Vector BC Same shape, same poplar layup, same published weight at every length. The Voile Vector BC molds a Traction Pattern scale base underfoot that climbs rolling ground without skins, and gives up glide for it. Skiers who skin every climb take the Voile Vector. Shop Voile Vector BC skis Voile Vector vs. Voile Vector Ace The Voile Vector Ace keeps the same 127-94-111 mm dimensions at 171 cm but swaps the full cap for a partial cap with a continuous TPU sidewall over a paulownia core, plus a maple mounting patch. At 171 cm the two weigh within 3 g per ski of each other; the Ace pulls ahead on weight at the long lengths and on damping everywhere. Shop Voile Vector Ace skis Common Questions Who should buy the Voile Vector? The Voile Vector suits tourers whose season runs to corn, crust and mixed snow rather than bottomless powder. At 94 mm underfoot at 171 cm with a long running length, a low-taper tail and an 18.5 m radius, it grips firm surfaces and holds a line at speed. The poplar core adds damping the Hyper build gives up, and Voile rates the ski for telemark bindings. How much does the Voile Vector weigh? The Voile Vector weighs 1,165 g per ski at 154 cm, 1,295 g at 164 cm, 1,405 g at 171 cm, 1,570 g at 177 cm and 1,680 g at 184 cm. Voile publishes pair weights, so any figure without a length attached is incomplete, and hand-built skis vary from pair to pair. Is the Voile Vector an extremely lightweight ski? That framing has not aged well and is worth checking against the number. Voile's page description still calls the Vector extremely lightweight, which was fair when the alternative was a poplar ski with no carbon in it. At 1,405 g per ski at 171 cm the Voile Vector now sits 190 g per ski above the HyperVector on an identical shape, so it is a mid-weight touring ski that skis calmly, not a light one. What bindings work with the Voile Vector? The Voile Vector takes AT bindings, including pin/tech touring bindings, and telemark bindings, supported by fiberglass heel and toe mounting patches. Quiver killers void the Voile factory warranty. A standard mount needs no reinforcing plate. Match binding to your boot sole norm, and size any brakes to the waist at the length you buy, 90 mm at 154 cm through 98 mm at 184 cm. What length Voile Vector should I ski? Because the sidecut moves with the size, the choice is width as well as radius. A 154 is 119-90-105 mm on a 16.5 m radius, a 171 is 127-94-111 mm on 18.5 m, and a 184 is 133-98-116 mm on 20 m. Directional skiers should take the longer end; skiers prioritising vertical and tight terrain should take the shorter. How does the Voile Vector handle powder? It copes with powder rather than chasing it. The early-rise tip and 127 mm shovel at 171 cm give more float than 94 mm underfoot suggests, but the long running length and low-taper tail track rather than surf. Skiers who want float and pivot should look at the V6 or the V8. What skins fit the Voile Vector? Run skins at a 120 mm stock width. The tail measures 105 mm at 154 cm through 116 mm at 184 cm, so 100 mm stock would leave tail edges bare at every length. Match the skin to the tail rather than the 94 mm waist. Our Verdict The Voile Vector Touring Ski is the firm-snow specialist in Voile's poplar line, and it is the one to buy if the descent is more often crust than powder. Early Rise Camber keeps a long running length with camber underfoot, the low-taper tail stays wide and flat where a rockered tail would let go, and the 127-94-111 mm shape at 171 cm on an 18.5 m radius asks for a committed turn. At 1,405 g per ski in a 171 the poplar core and one Voile Carbon-Weave layer make it 190 g per ski heavier than the HyperVector, and calmer for it. Deep-snow skiers and gram counters have better options in the same catalog.
