Voile Vector BC Touring Ski

94 mm Scaled-Base All-Mountain Touring Ski Voile Vector BC Touring Ski Skiers who cover distance across meadows, ridgelines and approach tracks, and who resent every skin transition it takes, are why the Voile Vector BC Touring Ski has scales underfoot. A 127-94-111 mm shape at 171 cm keeps the long running length and low-taper tail that hold an edge on firm snow, and the Traction Pattern base grips low-angle ground with the skins still in the pack. At 1,405 g per ski in a 171 the Voile Vector BC matches the standard Vector at every length, so the scales are a glide decision rather than a weight one. Expert Review Specifications verified against the manufacturer catalog for this model year. Ratings are our reading of the specs and are pending staff on-snow review. Is This the Right Ski for You? Best For Distance tourers on rolling and moderate terrain who still want firm-snow edge hold, plus telemark skiers wanting a 94 mm ski that climbs without skins. Consider Another Ski If You skin every climb, want the free glide of a smooth base on flats and low-angle runs, or ski terrain steep enough that scales never carry the load. Unlike most scaled skis, the Voile Vector BC keeps a directional shape: a long running length, minimal tail taper and camber underfoot, so the descent is still about holding an edge. Published pair weights are identical to the standard Vector at all five lengths, so no weight comes with the scale base. Poplar and a fiberglass mounting patch make the Voile Vector BC telemark rated, which is the binding class most at home on the low-angle ground the scales are built for. Best Uses Long traverses, meadows and rolling ridgelines Hut approaches and trail-system touring Telemark and three-pin setups that want an edge Firm and mixed snow on the descent Skiers trading glide for fewer transitions Ski Specialist's Advice Voile is direct about the limit: the Traction Pattern base is not a replacement for skins on steep climbs or icy tracks, and grip falls off on cold dry snow. Treat it as the tool for gentle climbs, traverses and meadows, and keep skins for the rest. Sizing follows the family pattern, with a 154 at 119-90-105 mm on a 16.5 m radius and 1,165 g per ski, and a 184 at 133-98-116 mm on a 20 m radius and 1,680 g per ski. The Voile Vector BC takes AT bindings and telemark bindings, and quiver killers void the Voile factory warranty. Use the boot center mark on the topsheet, which Voile charts size by size, and leave out any reinforcing plate. Match binding to your boot sole norm, size brakes to the waist at your length from 90 mm at 154 cm to 98 mm at 184 cm, and carry skins at a 120 mm stock width. Skins stick over the scales without difficulty. Length and mount guidance built from the manufacturer size run. Compare the Voile Vector BC Voile Vector BC vs. Voile Vector Same shape, same poplar layup, same published weight at every one of the five lengths. The scale base is the only difference, and it buys skin-free climbing on gentle ground while costing glide on flats and low-angle descents. The Voile Vector is the faster ski downhill. Shop Voile Vector skis Voile Vector BC vs. Voile HyperVector BC Both carry the Traction Pattern base on the identical 127-94-111 mm shape. The Voile HyperVector BC swaps poplar for paulownia with doubled carbon and comes in at 1,230 g per ski at 171 cm against 1,405 g for the Voile Vector BC. The Vector BC is damper and is the one Voile rates for telemark bindings. Shop Voile HyperVector BC skis Voile Vector BC vs. Voile V6 BC Two scaled poplar skis with opposite turn characters. The Voile V6 BC is 131-99-111 mm at 178 cm on the Hybrid Rocker profile, with tip and tail rise that releases turns early. The Voile Vector BC holds a long running length and a flat tail for grip. Soft snow favors the V6 BC, firm snow favors the Vector BC. Shop Voile V6 BC skis Common Questions Who should buy the Voile Vector BC? The Voile Vector BC suits tourers who cover ground: long traverses, rolling ridgelines, approach tracks and meadows where skins go on and off repeatedly. The molded scale base handles that terrain without a transition, and unlike most scaled skis the 127-94-111 mm shape at 171 cm still holds an edge on firm snow. Can the Voile Vector BC replace climbing skins? No, and Voile says so on its own page rather than leaving the impression it can. The Traction Pattern base is not a replacement for skins on steep climbs or icy tracks; it is an efficient option on gentle climbs, rolling terrain, long traverses and meadows. Anyone buying the Voile Vector BC expecting to leave skins at home will be disappointed on the first proper skin track. Do the scales make the Voile Vector BC heavier? No. Voile lists the same pair weights for the Voile Vector BC as for the standard Vector at 154, 164, 171, 177 and 184 cm, which works out to 1,165, 1,295, 1,405, 1,570 and 1,680 g per ski. The pattern is molded into the base material rather than added on top of it. What bindings work with the Voile Vector BC? The Voile Vector BC takes AT bindings, including pin/tech touring bindings, and telemark bindings, supported by the fiberglass heel and toe mounting patches. Quiver killers void the Voile factory warranty. A standard mount needs no reinforcing plate. Match binding to your boot sole norm and size any brakes to the waist, 90 mm at 154 cm up to 98 mm at 184 cm. What length Voile Vector BC should I ski? The run covers 154 to 184 cm, and the shape changes with it: a 154 is 119-90-105 mm on a 16.5 m radius while a 184 is 133-98-116 mm on a 20 m radius. Skiers using the scales for distance work often size to the longer end for glide, and skiers in tight trees to the shorter end. How much does the scale base cost on the descent? Glide on flats and low-angle runouts, some noise on hard snow, and the ability to ski backwards. The drag matters less once the pitch steepens or the snow softens. Those trade-offs come with any scaled base rather than with this ski in particular. What skins fit the Voile Vector BC? Carry skins at a 120 mm stock width for the steep half of the day. The tail measures 105 mm at 154 cm through 116 mm at 184 cm, so 100 mm stock would leave tail edges bare. Match the skin to the tail rather than the 94 mm waist, and expect no trouble getting adhesive to stick over the scales. Our Verdict The Voile Vector BC Touring Ski is the scaled ski for skiers who cover distance and still care about the edge. The molded Traction Pattern base climbs gentle and rolling ground with nothing on the bases, and the 127-94-111 mm shape at 171 cm on an 18.5 m radius keeps a long running length and a flat tail for firm-snow grip, which is unusual in a scaled ski. At 1,405 g per ski in a 171 it matches the standard Vector exactly, so the scales cost glide rather than grams. Skiers who skin every climb should buy the standard Vector instead.
