Voile HyperVector Touring Ski

94 mm Ultralight All-Mountain Touring Ski Voile HyperVector Touring Ski Tourers who ski firm spring snow as often as powder, and who want a ski that holds an edge without being heavy, should start with the Voile HyperVector Touring Ski. A 127-94-111 mm shape at 171 cm keeps a long running length with minimal tail taper for grip on refrozen surfaces, and the 18.5 m radius at that length asks for a committed turn rather than a flick. At 1,215 g per ski in a 171 the Voile HyperVector is the lightest ski in Voile's alpine touring line at this width, which makes it the one to take when the day is mostly climbing. Expert Review Specifications verified against the manufacturer catalog for this model year. Ratings are our reading of the specs and are pending staff on-snow review. Is This the Right Ski for You? Best For Tourers and spring mountaineers who want 94 mm underfoot with real edge hold at a low climbing weight, for firm snow, corn and long vertical days. Consider Another Ski If You ski mostly deep snow, want a surfy ski that pivots easily, or plan to mount telemark bindings, which void the Voile factory warranty on Hyper Series skis. At 1,215 g per ski in a 171 the Voile HyperVector is light enough for big vertical days without dropping to a race-weight ski that gives up the descent entirely. Two Voile Carbon-Weave layers, carbon fiber woven through triaxial glass, sit over the paulownia wood core, so torsional stiffness holds up despite the softer wood. The 154 cm at 119-90-105 mm and 985 g per ski is a serious ski mountaineering option for lighter skiers rather than a shrunken adult ski. Best Uses Spring ski mountaineering and corn harvest Firm and refrozen snow on the descent Big vertical days and long approaches Skiers running pin/tech touring bindings All-season touring in the 90 to 95 mm range Ski Specialist's Advice Length matters more than usual on the Voile HyperVector, because the shape is directional and Voile changes the sidecut with the size. A 154 is 119-90-105 mm on a 16.5 m radius at 985 g per ski, and a 184 is 133-98-116 mm on a 20 m radius at 1,390 g per ski, so the 154 is closer to a ski mountaineering ski and the 184 to an all-mountain one. Take the longer length if edge hold at speed is the priority. Voile builds the Hyper Series for AT bindings, and mounting telemark bindings or quiver killers on the Voile HyperVector voids the Voile factory warranty. Voile marks boot center and publishes a chart per length, so a standard mount needs no reinforcing plate. Match binding to your boot sole norm, size brakes to the waist at your length from 90 mm at 154 cm to 98 mm at 184 cm, and cut skins from a 120 mm stock width to cover the 105 to 116 mm tail. Ski crampons are worth having on a ski this focused on firm snow. Length and mount guidance built from the manufacturer size run. Compare the Voile HyperVector Voile HyperVector vs. Voile Hyper V6 Same Hyper layup, opposite intentions. The Voile Hyper V6 is 131-99-111 mm at 178 cm on the Hybrid Rocker profile, with tip and tail rise and a short running length that releases turns early. The Voile HyperVector keeps a long running length and a flat tail for grip on firm snow. Snow preference decides this, not the 5 mm of waist. Shop Voile Hyper V6 skis Voile HyperVector vs. Voile HyperCharger These two share the Hyper layup and the Early Rise Camber profile and sit 10 mm apart underfoot. The Voile HyperCharger is 137-104-121 mm at 171 cm and 1,295 g per ski, which floats better in soft snow. The Voile HyperVector is 127-94-111 mm and 1,215 g, quicker edge to edge and better suited to firm conditions and long climbs. Shop Voile HyperCharger skis Voile HyperVector vs. Voile Charger The Voile Charger is the poplar-core, wider version of the same directional idea, 137-104-121 mm at 171 cm and 1,545 g per ski, damper at speed and telemark rated. The Voile HyperVector gives up 330 g per ski and 10 mm of waist for a ski built around the climb. Days with more up than down favor the HyperVector. Shop Voile Charger skis Common Questions Who should buy the Voile HyperVector? The Voile HyperVector suits tourers whose season is more spring corn and firm snow than deep powder, and who want edge hold at a low weight. At 94 mm underfoot at 171 cm with a long running length, minimal tail taper, an 18.5 m radius and 1,215 g per ski, it climbs efficiently and holds a line on refrozen surfaces. Powder-first skiers should look at the Hyper V6 or Hyper V8. How much does the Voile HyperVector weigh? The Voile HyperVector weighs 985 g per ski at 154 cm, 1,125 g at 164 cm, 1,215 g at 171 cm, 1,285 g at 177 cm and 1,390 g at 184 cm. Voile publishes these as pair weights, so a figure quoted without a length is incomplete, and hand-built skis vary between pairs. Is the Voile HyperVector 94 mm underfoot? Only at 171 cm, and this applies across the Voile line rather than to this ski alone. Voile changes the waist with the length to keep performance consistent, so the HyperVector runs 90 mm at 154 cm, 92 mm at 164 cm, 94 mm at 171 cm, 96 mm at 177 cm and 98 mm at 184 cm. Anyone shopping on waist width should check the number at the length they will actually buy. What bindings work with the Voile HyperVector? The Voile HyperVector is built for AT bindings, including pin/tech touring bindings, and takes a standard mount without a reinforcing plate. Mounting telemark bindings or quiver killers on a Hyper Series ski voids the Voile factory warranty. Match binding to your boot sole norm, and if the binding carries brakes, size them to the waist at your length, 90 mm at 154 cm up to 98 mm at 184 cm. What length Voile HyperVector should I ski? The size run covers a lot of ground here: a 154 is 119-90-105 mm on a 16.5 m radius while a 184 is 133-98-116 mm on a 20 m radius. Take the longer end if edge hold at speed matters, and the shorter end if the priority is vertical and technical terrain. Weight runs from 985 g per ski to 1,390 g per ski across that span. How does the Voile HyperVector handle powder? It handles powder rather than seeking it out. The early-rise tip and 127 mm shovel at 171 cm give more float than 94 mm underfoot suggests, but the long running length and low-taper tail want to track rather than surf. Skiers who want float and pivot should look at the Hyper V6 or the Hyper V8 instead. What skins fit the Voile HyperVector? Take skins at a 120 mm stock width. The tail runs 105 mm at 154 cm to 116 mm at 184 cm, so 100 mm stock would leave tail edges bare at every length. Size to the tail rather than the 94 mm waist, and add ski crampons for the firm morning snow this ski is built for. Our Verdict The Voile HyperVector Touring Ski is the one in this line built around the climb and the firm descent that usually follows it. Early Rise Camber keeps a long running length with camber underfoot, minimal tail taper leaves a wide flat tail to grip refrozen snow, and the 127-94-111 mm shape at 171 cm on an 18.5 m radius asks for a committed turn. At 1,215 g per ski in a 171, with a paulownia core under two Voile Carbon-Weave layers, it is the lightest alpine touring ski Voile builds at this width. Deep-snow skiers will want the Hyper V6 or Hyper V8, and telemark skiers cannot use this build at all.
