Voile HyperVector BC Touring Ski

94 mm Ultralight Scaled-Base Touring Ski Voile HyperVector BC Touring Ski Tourers who want to kick and glide across the flat middle of a day without paying for it on the climb are the case for the Voile HyperVector BC Touring Ski. A 127-94-111 mm shape at 171 cm keeps the long running length and low-taper tail that hold an edge on firm snow, and the molded Traction Pattern base handles gentle climbs and traverses with nothing on the bases. At 1,230 g per ski in a 171 the Voile HyperVector BC is the lightest scaled ski Voile builds, which is what stops the scales feeling like a compromise. Expert Review Specifications verified against the manufacturer catalog for this model year. Ratings are our reading of the specs and are pending staff on-snow review. Is This the Right Ski for You? Best For Distance tourers who want skin-free travel on rolling ground at the lowest weight Voile offers in a scaled ski, with firm-snow edge hold on the descent. Consider Another Ski If You want the free glide of a smooth base, prefer the damping of the poplar build, or plan to mount telemark bindings, which void the warranty on Hyper Series skis. Voile keeps the directional shape intact on the scaled version, so the long running length, camber underfoot and low-taper tail still grip firm snow rather than washing out. The scale pattern grips when the ski is pressed flat and glides on the forward stride, so meadows, traverses and gentle climbs pass without a transition. Hardened steel edges wrap the full perimeter, which matters on a ski this light when the scales are being pushed across icy trail and rock. Best Uses Long traverses, meadows and rolling approach tracks Hut and lodge tours with repeated flat sections Spring corn and firm-snow descents Skiers running pin/tech touring bindings Big-distance days where weight and transitions both matter Ski Specialist's Advice The scales cover gentle and moderate ground and stop well short of a skin track, losing grip on cold dry snow and on refrozen surfaces, so skins stay in the pack rather than at home. Length works as it does across the family: a 154 is 119-90-105 mm on a 16.5 m radius at 1,020 g per ski, and a 184 is 133-98-116 mm on a 20 m radius at 1,415 g per ski. Distance skiers tend to size up for glide, and skiers in tight terrain down. Voile builds the Hyper Series for AT bindings, and mounting telemark bindings or quiver killers on the Voile HyperVector BC voids the Voile factory warranty. Tele skiers should buy the poplar Voile Vector BC, which Voile rates for their bindings. Boot center is marked on the topsheet with a chart per length, so no plate goes under the binding. Size brakes to the waist at your length, 90 mm at 154 cm to 98 mm at 184 cm, and carry skins at a 120 mm stock width. Length and mount guidance built from the manufacturer size run. Compare the Voile HyperVector BC Voile HyperVector BC vs. Voile HyperVector Same shape, same paulownia core and doubled carbon, and published weights within 25 g per ski of each other at every length. The scale base is the entire decision: the Voile HyperVector BC climbs gentle ground without skins, the Voile HyperVector glides freely on flats and low-angle descents. Shop Voile HyperVector skis Voile HyperVector BC vs. Voile Vector BC Two scaled skis on the same 127-94-111 mm shape at 171 cm, separated by layup. The Voile HyperVector BC comes in at 1,230 g per ski against 1,405 g for the poplar Voile Vector BC. The Vector BC is the damper ski and the one rated for telemark bindings. Shop Voile Vector BC skis Voile HyperVector BC vs. Voile Hyper V6 BC Two Hyper Series scaled skis with opposite turn characters. The Voile Hyper V6 BC is 131-99-111 mm at 178 cm on the Hybrid Rocker profile at 1,340 g per ski, built to pivot and float. The Voile HyperVector BC is narrower, holds a longer running length and grips firm snow. Snow type decides this one. Shop Voile Hyper V6 BC skis Common Questions Who should buy the Voile HyperVector BC? The Voile HyperVector BC suits tourers who cover distance across rolling terrain and count grams while doing it. At 94 mm underfoot at 171 cm and 1,230 g per ski, it is the lightest scaled ski in Voile's line, and the long running length and low-taper tail keep the descent honest on firm snow. Does a pair of Voile HyperVector BC weigh under six pounds? At four of the five lengths, yes, and Voile's own page states it without that qualification. Six pounds is 2,722 g, and the published pair weights are 2,040 g at 154 cm, 2,280 g at 164 cm, 2,460 g at 171 cm and 2,580 g at 177 cm. The 184 cm comes in at 2,830 g, which is 6.24 lb, so the claim does not hold at the top of the size run. How steep can the Voile HyperVector BC climb without skins? Well short of a skin track, and it moves with the snow. The Traction Pattern base grips best when there is moisture in the snow and loses purchase on cold dry powder and refrozen crust. Use the scales for gentle climbs, rolling terrain and traverses, and carry skins for sustained or steep climbing. What bindings work with the Voile HyperVector BC? The Voile HyperVector BC is built for AT bindings, including pin/tech touring bindings, and takes a standard mount without a reinforcing plate. Mounting telemark bindings or quiver killers on a Hyper Series ski voids the Voile factory warranty, so tele skiers should buy the poplar Voile Vector BC. Pair the binding to your boot sole norm, and set brake width against the waist at your size, from 90 mm at 154 cm to 98 mm at 184 cm. What length Voile HyperVector BC should I ski? The run is 154 to 184 cm, and the shape moves with it: a 154 is 119-90-105 mm on a 16.5 m radius and a 184 is 133-98-116 mm on a 20 m radius. The whole run is light, so sizing up for glide and stability costs little on the climb. Is the scaled version heavier than the smooth HyperVector? Barely, and not by enough to buy on. Voile lists 1,230 g per ski for the Voile HyperVector BC at 171 cm against 1,215 g for the HyperVector, and the two stay within 25 g per ski across the run. On skis Voile builds by hand, differences that small are build variance rather than a penalty for the scale base. What skins fit the Voile HyperVector BC? Carry skins at a 120 mm stock width. Tails run 105 mm at 154 cm up to 116 mm at 184 cm, which puts 100 mm stock short of the tail edges throughout the run. Size against the tail, not the 94 mm waist; adhesive holds over the scale pattern without trouble. Our Verdict The Voile HyperVector BC Touring Ski is the scaled ski for skiers who measure a day in distance rather than laps. The molded Traction Pattern base handles meadows, traverses and gentle climbs with nothing on the bases, and Voile leaves the directional shape alone, so the 127-94-111 mm dimensions at 171 cm on an 18.5 m radius still grip firm snow on the way down. At 1,230 g per ski in a 171 it is the lightest scaled ski Voile makes, 175 g per ski under the poplar Vector BC and within build variance of the smooth HyperVector. Telemark skiers need the Vector BC instead.
