This travel poster, produced by Casa Jacobo Peuser of Buenos Aires circa the early 1950s, represents a significant example of joint Argentine-Chilean tourism promotion during the post-war era. The composition employs a sophisticated framing device, using the distinctive silhouettes of Araucaria araucana (monkey puzzle trees) to create a natural proscenium through which the viewer observes an idealized Lake District landscape. The iconography draws upon established European travel poster conventions while depicting specifically South American subject matter: the scattered white houses with red roofs reference the Swiss and German immigrant settlements that characterized towns like San Carlos de Bariloche, while the native Araucaria trees anchor the scene firmly in the temperate rainforests of southern Chile and Argentina. This visual synthesis reflects the broader cultural project of positioning Patagonia as a sophisticated, accessible alternative to Alpine Europe. The Peuser printing house, founded by German immigrant Jacobo Peuser in 1867, became one of Latin America's preeminent commercial printers, known for cartographic works, government publications, and promotional materials. This poster demonstrates their technical capabilities in producing richly saturated color lithography with precise registration across multiple color passes. Size: 42.75" x 29.0" Condition: Very Good, Age appropriate wear, toning and fading. Poster had never been folded. Minute professionally repaired border tears. Conservation backed on linen.
