Virginia Rose

Stop and smell the wild side! Virginia Rose, also known as Common Wild Rose, Prairie Rose, and Pasture Rose, is a rugged native Rose bush that brings untamed beauty straight from Ma Nature into your landscape. This deciduous, flowering shrub produces soft pink blooms with a light, classic Rose fragrance that feels nostalgic and fresh all at once. Flowers appear in late spring through early summer, followed by glossy red Rose hips that shine into fall and winter. This is not a fussy Rose bush. Virginia Rose grows with confidence, featuring thorny stems, deep roots, and a naturally spreading habit that forms dense, protective thickets. The oval, toothed green leaves glow through summer and turn yellow in fall. After bloom season wraps up, the round Rose hips take center stage, feeding birds and adding cold-season color. Its upright-to-rounded shape makes it both beautiful and practical. Native to the eastern United States, Virginia Rose has been valued for generations. Indigenous peoples and early settlers used the vitamin C-rich hips for teas and remedies. As part of the Rose family, it is related to cultivated Rose bushes but keeps its wild heart. This plant symbolizes strength, beauty, and resilience, proving that tough plants can still be drop-dead gorgeous.
