VX-30 Combo - Black

SIXTY YEARS OF BRITISH CHIME. FRIEDMAN REFINED The chime, shimmer, and touch-sensitive feel of the great British EL84 amplifiers have inspiredgenerations of guitarists for more than sixty years. From sparkling cleans and edge-of-breakup grind to harmonically rich overdrive, few sounds are as instantly recognizable - or as influential. A member of Dave Friedman’s Vintage-Series, the VX-30 is 30-Watt, all-tube, 2x12” Combo that captures everything players love about those iconic vintage circuits while adding thoughtful refinements that expand their versatility. Built around a quad of EL84 power tubes and inspired by a rare 1963 copper-panel amplifier enhanced with a Top Boost circuit, the VX-30 Combo delivers the unmistakable chime, harmonic complexity and touch sensitivity that defines one of rock's most celebrated amplifier designs. The VX-Series comprises of three products - the VX-30 Combo, the VX-30 Head and matching VX-212 extension cabinet - delivering the authentic vintage British experience in the format that fits your rig. For more than three decades, Dave Friedman has defined the modern voice of hot-rodded British rock - the amps behind countless stages and records. With the VX-30 Combo, Dave brings that same obsessive ear, exacting standards and deep circuit knowledge to the other great British sound: the chiming, touch-sensitive EL84 amplifiers of the early 1960s. It's not a departure. It's the same pursuit of tone, aimed at a different kind of magic. Handcrafted in Los Angeles using premium components and custom-made transformers, the VX-30 Combo isn't simply a tribute to a classic - it's the vintage British experience, evolved. THE SOUND OF BRITISH CHIME The VX-30 Combo is built around two independent voices that can be used individually or blended together to create sounds unavailable on the original vintage designs. The Brilliant channel delivers the unmistakable sparkle clarity, and harmonic richness that made British Top Boost amplifiers legendary. Independent Treble, Bass and Volume controls let you dial in everything from pristine cleans to rich, edge-of-breakup tones with exceptional articulation and dynamic response. The Normal channel features a unique three-position Voice switch that recreates the three distinct factory voicings offered on the vintage originals. Choose the articulate TREBLE voice for crisp, open cleans, the fuller BASS voice for thicker low-end character and added body or the classic NORMAL voice for warm, woody response. Unlike the vintage amplifiers that inspired it, the VX-30 Combo places both channels in phase, allowing them to be blended, just like jumping the inputs on a classic Plexi. Dial in as much Brilliant or Normal channel as you like, creating entirely new textures while preserving the unmistakable voice of each circuit. From crystalline cleans with added warmth to harmonically rich overdrive with incredible dimensionality, the blending capability dramatically expands the tonal palette. For players chasing iconic royal British tones, the VX-30 Combo excels with a treble booster feeding the Normal channel, producing the singing sustain, harmonic bloom and dynamic touch response heard on countless classic recordings. Blend in the Brilliant channel to add additional sparkle, definition and articulation - or use each channel independently to capture the pure voice of each vintage circuit. A Cut control shapes the power amp's high-frequency response, while the Master Volume Control (M.V.C.) allows the cathode-biased EL84 output stage to be pushed into its sweet spot at more manageable listening levels - all without sacrificing the amp's unmistakable character. DUAL CELESTION ALNICO BLUE SPEAKERS The VX-30 Combo is loaded with genuine (and expensive) Celestion Alnico Blue speakers - the same legendary drivers that gave the original amplifiers their voice. Selected by Dave Friedman for their bell-like chime, musical compression and remarkable touch sensitivity, the Celestion Alnico Blues are not an approximation of the classic British sound - they are an essential part of it. PURE TONE IN YOUR FINGERTIPS The VX-30 Combo isn’t about channels and gain stages – it’s about the conversation between your hands and the speaker. Cathode bias, a genuine 5AR4 tube rectifier and zero negative feedback all serve a single purpose: an amplifier that responds. Dig in and it grinds. Back off and it chimes. Roll down your guitar's volume and it cleans up like a second channel. The VX-30 Combo is about pure tone in your fingertips. Under the hood, modern protection and conservatively rated components ensure the VX-30 Combo delivers this vintage magic night after night. Even the absence of a standby switch is vintage-correct: the 5AR4 tube rectifier's gradual warm-up brings the amp to life gently and naturally, no switch required. The VX-30 Combo is everything players love about the great British amplifiers of the early 1960s - reimagined by Dave Friedman with greater flexibility, expanded tonal possibilities and unmistakable Friedman craftsmanship and reliability.
