c. 1950s-1960s; (likely) Mexico Forge Co. - Reedsville, PA Cast-aluminum playground spring rider in the form of a squirrel, mounted to a heavy steel coil spring with plate bracket and stabilizer bars. With a chunky body, upright ears, and simplified incised fur and tail details, the design carries Mexico Forge's signature blend of cartoon charm and municipal-grade durability. Mexico Forge, based in Reedsville, Pennsylvania, was a prolific mid-century maker of playground apparatus, best remembered for its cast-aluminum animal rides and robust spring hardware that populated schoolyards and parks across the country. Original orange paint with white accents shows heavy wear, sun fading, and scattered losses from decades of outdoor exposure, revealing bare aluminum beneath. The spring and hardware display oxidation and surface rust consistent with age but remain structurally solid. A nostalgic survivor of postwar playground culture. 26" L x 12" W x 30" H MM - 15806 - 091825 This piece will need to ship via freight.
