c. 1930s-1940s; (likely) Syracuse Ornamental Company - Syracuse, NY Pair of cast ceramic bookends in the form of rustic stone fireplaces, each topped with a schooner model and detailed with logs, fire irons, a cat, and a kindling bundle. Likely produced during the interwar years when decorative figural bookends were popular household accents, these examples carry a warm lodge aesthetic. The molded surfaces mimic hand-carved wood, with the ship-over-mantle motif nodding to both nautical and colonial revival themes. Numbered 3332 to reverse, they stand solid and weighty, purpose-built to anchor a shelf of books. 4.5" W x 2.5" D x 6" H each MM - 100323 - 5700 AF - 090826
