Vine Maple - Acer circinatum

The Vine Maple is a native Pacific Northwest species, Acer circinatum, prized for its graceful, contorted branching and exceptional seasonal color transitions. This deciduous understory tree reaches 15-25 feet with a naturally spreading, multi-stemmed form that creates sculptural winter interest. Spring foliage emerges in soft red tones, maturing to vibrant green before transforming to brilliant orange and crimson in autumn. Thriving in partial shade to dappled sunlight with consistently moist, well-drained soil, it performs exceptionally in woodland gardens and shaded landscapes. The cultivar demonstrates excellent shade tolerance and adapts well to acidic soils typical of forest environments. Its refined aesthetic, combined with low maintenance requirements and native plant benefits, makes it an outstanding choice for naturalistic plantings and shade gardens seeking year-round visual appeal.
