Vina Cobos Cocodrilo "Corte"

Viña Cobos Cocodrilo “Corte” is a bold, polished Mendoza red blend that delivers serious Cabernet-driven character with the kind of plush texture and modern refinement that make it instantly appealing on the shelf and in the glass. Produced from vineyards in Luján de Cuyo and the Valle de Uco, this wine is built around Cabernet Sauvignon and shaped by high-altitude fruit, French oak aging, and a house style centered on complexity and elegance. Viña Cobos describes the Cocodrilo line as a collection that highlights the potential of each variety through élevage in French oak barrels, with Corte standing out as a particularly expressive, structured, and approachable blend. Process & Profile The 2024 Cocodrilo Corte is composed of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec, and 2% Petit Verdot, sourced from Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco, Mendoza. Viña Cobos notes that the wine is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, with 14% first-use oak, and is unfined, preserving texture and depth while allowing the fruit and spice profile to remain front and center. In the glass, Cocodrilo Corte shows an intense ruby-red color with dark garnet tones, immediately signaling its depth and concentration. The aromatic profile is generous and savory, with Viña Cobos describing notes of plum, red fruit, roasted red pepper, and spice, while the current shop listing emphasizes sweet spices, roasted red pepper, clove, and dark chocolate. Together, those notes give the wine a plush, layered personality that feels both ripe and sophisticated. On the palate, the wine is rounded, complex, and textured, with sweet, silky tannins and a long finish. That combination of Cabernet structure and polished fruit makes it especially attractive for shoppers looking for a bottle that feels substantial and cellar-worthy, but still open and generous enough to enjoy without extended aging. The cellar-worthy positioning is an inference based on the blend, élevage, and tannin profile. What makes Viña Cobos Cocodrilo “Corte” especially compelling is the way it brings together Mendoza altitude, Cabernet Sauvignon backbone, and modern luxury styling in a bottle that overdelivers for its tier. It has the ripeness and richness New World drinkers love, but also enough structure, spice, and oak detail to feel polished and serious. For gifting, steakhouse dinners, or shoppers who want a red that feels both powerful and refined, Cocodrilo Corte hits a very attractive middle ground. The gifting and occasion positioning are an inference based on the producer’s style notes and the wine’s profile. Serve it just below room temperature and give it a little air to let the darker fruit, spice, and savory notes open fully. It should pair especially well with grilled steaks, short ribs, lamb, charred vegetables, aged cheeses, or smoky barbecue, which is an inference based on the wine’s Cabernet-led structure, oak aging, and roasted-spice profile.
