Video Production Camp

Video Production Camp Grades: 4-8 Number of Students: 30 Contact Hours: 12+ Lesson Plan Sample PDF   Although the digital age has almost entirely eclipsed old school film, the art of filmmaking has never been easier to start learning. Video Production Camp was developed around tablets and free editing software to make filmmaking as accessible as possible for instructors and their students. Throughout the 12 unit curriculum students learn about the history of film including tech advancements, as well as the variety of genre branches. Tablets in classrooms and after-school programs are becoming increasingly prevalent, so students film and edit using only a tablet! The art of composition is also a topic that is covered in Video Production Camp. From storyboarding, the rule of thirds, to lighting and audio, making each shot must be worthy of the final production. Daily activities build upon previous knowledge and the camp culminates in a final film project, which they show off with pride at the film festival held on the last day of camp. In this hands-on, integrated curriculum approach students gain both technical skills in video filming and editing while learning about the historical significance of film and the elements of story telling. The curriculum and elements included in the camp are reusable, allowing educators to run this camp over and over again! This fusion of art and technological literacy is truly the perfect illustration of STEAM education brought to life. The Video Production Camp includes all of the curriculum and materials needed for summer camps, after-school environments, and classroom enrichment time.
