Victron Energy Smart Battery Sense 10m Version

Victron Energy Smart Battery Sense 10m Version Helps Improve Battery Charging Accuracy The Victron Energy Smart Battery Sense 10m Version is a wireless battery voltage and temperature sensor designed for compatible Victron MPPT Solar Chargers. By measuring voltage and temperature directly at the battery bank, it gives the charging system more useful battery information instead of relying only on measurements taken farther away. That matters because cable resistance can create voltage differences between the charger and battery. With better voltage and temperature information available, the charging process can be adjusted more appropriately for the battery. Victron Energy Smart Battery Sense 10m Version Features Battery Voltage Sensing For More Accurate Charging The Smart Battery Sense measures voltage directly at the battery bank terminals. This helps avoid errors caused by voltage loss through cable resistance, allowing the connected Victron MPPT Solar Charger to use the correct charge voltage. For battery-based solar systems, that can make the difference between simply connecting equipment and having the charging system work with better information about what is actually happening at the battery. Temperature Sensing For Better Battery Charging Battery temperature can affect the appropriate charging voltage. For lead batteries, the temperature information is used to adjust charge voltages, with cold batteries requiring increased charge voltage and hot batteries requiring decreased charge voltage. For lithium batteries, temperature information can be used to disable charging when the batteries are too cold, helping avoid permanent cell damage associated with charging lithium batteries near or below freezing. Wireless VE.Smart Networking So You Can Reduce Wiring The Smart Battery Sense communicates wirelessly with compatible Solar Chargers through Victron's VE.Smart Network, which is based on Bluetooth Smart technology. This means the battery sensing information does not need a separate wired connection between the sensor and Solar Charger for communication. 10m Version For Systems With Greater Wireless Reach This 10m version is the long-range Smart Battery Sense option, making it a practical consideration when the physical arrangement of a battery bank and compatible solar charging equipment calls for additional wireless reach. As with any wireless system, the actual installation environment and equipment placement should be considered before purchase. Multiple Solar Chargers For Coordinated Battery Information The information transmitted by the Smart Battery Sense can be used simultaneously by one, two, or more compatible Solar Chargers connected to the same 12V, 24V, or 48V battery bank. This can be useful when a power system uses multiple solar chargers and needs the chargers to work from the same battery voltage and temperature information. Simple Battery Connection For A Tidy Setup The Smart Battery Sense connects using its two eyelets at the battery terminals. The sensor can then be attached directly to the battery body using its self-adhesive strip. The result is a compact sensing setup without a separate communication cable running between the sensor and compatible Solar Charger. How The Victron Energy Smart Battery Sense 10m Version Works The concept is straightforward. Instead of having the MPPT Solar Charger estimate battery conditions from its own connection point, the Smart Battery Sense measures voltage and temperature at the battery bank. Those measurements are then communicated wirelessly through the VE.Smart Network. That direct measurement is particularly useful because the voltage at the charger and the voltage at the battery can differ when cable resistance causes voltage loss. Measuring at the battery helps the charging system account for the condition that matters most: the voltage actually present at the battery terminals. The temperature measurement adds another important piece of information. Battery chemistry responds differently to temperature, so temperature data allows supported charging systems to make more appropriate charging decisions. Real-World Applications Off-Grid Solar Systems For Better Battery Charging Information In an off-grid solar installation using compatible Victron MPPT Solar Chargers, the Smart Battery Sense can provide battery voltage and temperature information from the battery bank. This is useful when the battery location and Solar Charger location are separated within the system. RV And Mobile Power Systems For Flexible Equipment Placement RV and mobile power installations often require batteries and charging equipment to be positioned according to the available space. The wireless connection can help simplify communication between the battery sensor and compatible Solar Chargers without adding a dedicated communication wire between them. Backup Power Systems For More Informed Solar Charging For battery-based backup power systems that use compatible Victron MPPT Solar Chargers, accurate battery voltage and temperature information can support more appropriate charging. The Smart Battery Sense is therefore best viewed as a sensing component that helps the charging system understand the battery more accurately. Smart Battery Sense 10m Compared With The Short-Range Version Victron offers Smart Battery Sense versions with different wireless reach. The 10m version is intended for installations where greater range is useful, while the shorter-range version is designed for installations where the battery and connected equipment are closer together. The important point is not simply choosing the version with the larger number. Consider where the battery bank and compatible Solar Charger will be located, how the equipment is separated, and whether the surrounding installation could affect wireless communication. Choosing the appropriate version can help avoid unnecessary placement compromises. Is The Victron Energy Smart Battery Sense 10m Version Right For You This product is most relevant to customers building or improving a battery-based solar system around compatible Victron MPPT Solar Chargers and who want battery voltage and temperature sensing without a wired communication connection between the sensor and charger. This May Be A Good Fit If You use a compatible Victron MPPT Solar Charger. You want voltage measured directly at the battery bank. You want battery temperature information available to the charging system. Your system benefits from wireless VE.Smart Networking. Your battery and Solar Charger locations make the 10m version useful. You operate a 12V, 24V, or 48V battery bank with compatible Solar Chargers. Before ordering, confirm that your specific Victron Solar Charger supports the required Smart Battery Sense and VE.Smart Networking functions. Product compatibility should always be checked against the exact equipment in your system.
