Viburnum Summer Snowflake

Viburnum Summer Snowflake (Viburnum plicatum var. tomentosum) is a stunning, multi-season shrub known for its elegant, lacecap white blooms and layered branching. Thriving in USDA Hardiness Zones 5-8, this deciduous shrub reaches a mature size of 4-6 feet tall and 4-7 feet wide, making it ideal for garden borders, mixed beds, or as a striking standalone specimen. Viburnum Summer Snowflake produces delicate white flowers in late spring, which continue to bloom sporadically throughout the summer, giving the plant its "snowflake" effect. The blooms are followed by small, bright red berries in late summer, which ripen to black, adding additional seasonal interest and attracting birds. In addition to its beautiful blooms, Viburnum Summer Snowflake showcases rich green foliage throughout the growing season, transforming into burgundy and red shades in the fall. This multi-season interest makes it a valuable addition to any landscape, providing vibrant color from spring through autumn. The shrub's horizontal branching creates a unique tiered effect, adding texture and structure to garden spaces. Its compact size and graceful appearance make the Viburnum Summer Snowflake perfect for smaller gardens, urban landscapes, or larger containers. Easy to care for, Viburnum Summer Snowflake is adaptable to a variety of soil types as long as it is well-drained. It performs best in full sun to partial shade and requires minimal pruning to maintain its naturally elegant form. Once established and relatively low-maintenance, this viburnum variety is drought-tolerant and deer-resistant, making it an excellent choice for gardens where wildlife may be a concern. Whether used as a focal point, hedge, or border plant, Viburnum Summer Snowflake offers year-round beauty and ecological benefits to any landscape.
