In this Zoom tutorial, Deborah will walk you through the full process of creating a flattering, easy-to-wear handwoven vest, available in both short and long versions. She’ll cover how to put on a long warp on a rigid heddle loom, weave fabric suitable for garments, and then sew the woven panels together to complete a flattering vest designed to fit you. If you’ve woven lots of scarves and towels and have been wishing to try something wearable, this class is the perfect next step. Deborah will talk about fit, sizing, and adjustments for different body types, helping you feel confident that your finished vest will fit comfortably and beautifully. The vest is woven in panels, so a weaving width of 10"–12" is all that’s needed (unless you’d like to create a wider style). The fabric itself is plain weave, making this an approachable project for adventurous beginners as well as experienced weavers who want to explore garment construction. Class Format This session is designed as an instructional and demonstration-based tutorial. A PowerPoint presentation will be used, demonstrating each step, and welcoming questions and discussion throughout the class. Participants will then create their garments afterward, using the class recording as a guide. You’ll have the opportunity to: Learn techniques for weaving garment fabric Understand how to plan and manage a long warp See how the vest is assembled and sewn Ask questions and connect with fellow weavers in a supportive environment All from the comfort of your own home.
