Venice, Italy- Antique Map

This elegant city plan of Venice captures the Serenissima in the early 1930s, a moment when Italian state tourism was reaching new heights of sophistication. Produced by the renowned Istituto Geografico De Agostini of Novara for ENIT, Italy's national tourist board, the map renders the city's labyrinthine street network in warm coral tones against the blue-gray waters of the Grand Canal and surrounding lagoon. The cartography is meticulous, naming hundreds of churches, palaces, and landmarks that drew cultured travelers to Venice during the interwar years. A separate inset details the Lido, then a fashionable beach resort frequented by international celebrities. The map references the 'Nuovo Ponte,' the new road bridge that had just connected Venice to the mainland, marking a pivotal moment in the city's relationship with modernity. A handsome example of Italian institutional cartography between the wars, this piece bridges practical navigation and promotional artistry. The ENIT seal anchors the lower right corner, a reminder of the coordinated effort to present Italy's cultural treasures to the world. Size: 7.75" x 14.25" Condition: Very Good, Age-appropriate wear.
