Vanderwolf's Pyramid Limber Pine (Pinus flexilis 'Vanderwolf's Pyramid') is an upright pyramidal pine with soft twisted blue-green needles held in dense tufts, reaching 20 to 25 feet tall and 10 to 15 feet wide in zones 4 through 8. It grows at a steady moderate pace and holds a symmetrical shape without any pruning. Limber Pine is a high-elevation native of the western mountains, named for branches flexible enough to bend under snow instead of snapping. That flexibility carries into the garden as real durability in wind, ice and cold. Among the pines we grow, this cultivar is the tidiest, with a narrower profile than an Eastern White Pine and better blue color than an Austrian Pine. Use it as a specimen in a front yard, as a windbreak in a staggered row, or as a year-round screen where you need height without the spread of a spruce. It tolerates alkaline soil and the dry conditions of the plains and mountain west. Light: full sun Water: water deeply to establish, then drought tolerant Soil: well drained, tolerates alkaline, rocky and sandy ground Care: no pruning needed, avoid planting in low wet spots Add Vanderwolf's Pyramid Limber Pine to your cart.
