It all began in 1964 with the Pontiac GTO, often considered the first true muscle car, offering a potent V8 engine and affordable speed. These cars, like the Dodge Charger Daytona, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Chevelle SS, and Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda, packed over 300 to 450 horsepower under the hood. With aggressive grilles, hood scoops, racing stripes, and fastback shapes, muscle cars like the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Corvette Stingray became symbols of freedom, rebellion, and raw power. Unlike European sports cars, muscle cars were built for the everyday driver, offering exhilarating performance at an accessible price. Their influence extended beyond the road, appearing in iconic films like Bullitt (1968) and Vanishing Point (1971), and being celebrated in art and music. Although the era waned in the early 1970s due to rising costs and stricter regulations, the legacy of these powerful machines continues to shape car culture today. These machines struck the perfect balance between performance and practicality, leaving an indelible mark on automotive history. The V-EIGHT Series takes its cues from the golden age of American muscle, with the Ford Mustang as a central muse. Each watch celebrates the fearless design, unrestrained power, and rebellious spirit that turned these cars into cultural icons. First popularized in 1964 by journalist Brock Yates, the term “muscle car” described high-performance American coupes with rear-wheel drive and V8 engines. Defined by the “three A’s” – acceleration, attitude, and affordability – they rose to prominence in the mid-1960s, celebrated for their speed, aggressive lines, and accessibility. The V-EIGHT Series channels this legacy through meticulous design details: a 40-hour power reserve styled like a fuel gauge, a chapter ring echoing Shelby racing stripes, and strap stitching inspired by muscle car interiors. Typography recalls vintage dashboard dials, while the crown mimics a chrome hubcap. The case profile pays homage to the Mustang’s rear lights and grille — a timepiece that distills the essence of American muscle into every contour.
