Westcott 43″ Apollo Orb with Grid

NOTE: Does not include diffuser. The Westcott 43″ Apollo Orb with Grid is a round softbox modifier designed to produce soft, flattering, wraparound light for portrait, headshot, and beauty photography. Its spherical shape distinguishes it from traditional rectangular or square softboxes, producing a distinct catchlight and light quality favored by portrait photographers for its even, natural-looking falloff. At 43 inches, the Apollo Orb offers a mid-size round modifier well suited to headshots, beauty shots, and close-to-medium portrait work, providing broad, soft coverage across a subject’s face and upper body without requiring a larger, bulkier modifier. The round shape of the softbox produces a circular catchlight in the subject’s eyes, a signature look favored by many portrait and beauty photographers as an alternative to the rectangular or octagonal catchlights produced by other softbox shapes. The included grid attaches to the front of the softbox to narrow and control the spread of light, reducing spill onto the background or surrounding areas of the scene and increasing the light’s directional quality. This is particularly useful when photographers want the softness of the Orb’s diffused light while still maintaining more control over exactly where that light falls, such as in a multi-light setup where preventing spill onto a background or secondary light is important. Construction follows a standard softbox design, with an internal diffusion layer and a front diffusion panel working together to spread and soften light output, reducing hot spots and producing smooth, even illumination across the face of the modifier. The softbox mounts to a compatible strobe or monolight via a speed-ring adapter, with the specific speed-ring depending on the flash system it’s paired with. Because speed-ring compatibility and specific bundled accessories can vary by listing, photographers should confirm the exact mount type and any included components for this particular unit before use.
