Urfa Biber Chile Flakes

The Urfa Biber is a dried chile native to southern Turkey. Known as the secret ingredient by many professional chefs, it boasts a wonderfully well-rounded smoky and earthy flavor with hints of coffee, chocolate and raisins. Slightly hotter than Aleppo, it has a medium heat level that starts mild and progresses over time. Common in Turkish cuisine, it is a main ingredient in lamb kebabs and many Middle Eastern yogurt sauces. Sprinkle it over everything from roasted veggies and feta cheese to ice cream and hot chocolate, or layer it with other flavors in hearty stews and braised meat dishes for an elevated flavor without the full punch of the chipotle pepper.
