Upstream

In Migle Kosinskaite’s work, Upstream shows a calm face rising from dark water, with fish swimming across and around the head. The expression is thoughtful and steady, giving the scene a quiet, dreamlike feeling. The white hair and pale features create a soft contrast against the textured background. The fish move in different directions, passing through the space as if thought and nature are blending together. Some seem to glide right through the head, turning the portrait into something symbolic rather than literal. The dark water at the bottom adds depth and anchors the composition with a sense of stillness. At its heart, Upstream is about quiet movement - the flow of thoughts, memories, or emotions that drift through the mind. The artwork captures this calm inner current with a peaceful, surreal mood. And while the piece stands beautifully on its own, its reflective tone fits naturally within Migle Kosinskaite’s wider body of thoughtful and symbolic works.
