Overview: Brand: Creed Fragrance Name: Love in Black Fragrance Type: Eau de Parfum Release Year: 2008 Target Audience: Feminine, but could appeal to anyone who enjoys floral and powdery fragrances Perfumer: Olivier Creed Scent Profile: Top Notes: Italian Violet: The fragrance opens with a prominent note of violet, which is dark, powdery, and slightly sweet. This note immediately sets a mysterious, romantic tone, adding a vintage, sophisticated feel to the fragrance. Virginia Cedar: Cedar brings an earthy, woody warmth that contrasts beautifully with the sweetness of the violet. The woodiness adds depth and a dry character to balance the floral opening, giving the fragrance a mature, grounded presence. Wildflowers: A medley of wildflowers adds a subtle green, earthy freshness to the top. The wildflowers blend into the background, supporting the violet but giving the fragrance a touch of brightness. Heart Notes: Iris: In the heart, iris takes center stage with its powdery and elegant nature. The iris in this fragrance feels buttery, smooth, and luxurious, deepening the powdery feel established by the violet. Iris is one of the key elements that gives Love in Black its timeless, almost regal quality. Clove: Clove spice adds a slight warmth and a touch of intrigue, contributing a subtle sharpness to the otherwise smooth and floral composition. It is not overpowering, but it adds depth and complexity to the heart. Base Notes: Blackcurrant: In the dry-down, blackcurrant adds a juicy, slightly tart and fruity touch that contrasts with the florals. It’s a welcome twist, adding a modern edge to the otherwise classic, powdery floral theme. Bulgarian Rose: Bulgarian rose in the base provides a soft, romantic sweetness, blending seamlessly with the iris and violet. The rose is delicate and smooth, offering a refined floral finish to the composition. Musk: Musk in the base is soft and sensual, giving the fragrance a skin-like warmth. It enhances the powdery and floral elements, making the fragrance feel intimate and elegant. Performance: Longevity: Love in Black has moderate longevity, lasting about 6-8 hours on the skin. The initial violet and iris notes are quite strong, but as the fragrance settles, it softens into a more intimate, powdery scent that lingers close to the skin. Projection: Moderate. The fragrance has a soft to moderate sillage, creating a noticeable yet not overpowering trail. It projects more strongly in the opening but becomes more subtle as the scent dries down, which makes it ideal for both day and evening wear without being too intense. Versatility: Love in Black is versatile, leaning toward formal and elegant occasions. Its powdery, floral nature makes it ideal for evening events, romantic dinners, or cooler weather. However, it could also work for daytime wear in the fall and winter, especially for those who appreciate vintage-style, powdery florals. Impression: Love in Black is a fragrance that immediately evokes elegance and mystery. The opening violet is dark and slightly sweet, giving it a vintage, powdery feel, which is beautifully complemented by the dry, woody touch of cedar. The combination of violet and iris creates a luxurious, velvety floral experience, with iris adding depth and smoothness to the composition. The fragrance feels sophisticated and mature, with a regal, almost classic aura. The subtle hints of clove in the heart add warmth and spice, while the blackcurrant in the base introduces a modern, juicy twist that keeps the fragrance from feeling overly traditional. The soft musk and delicate rose in the base make the fragrance feel sensual and intimate as it settles, creating a powdery, skin-like finish that is romantic and comforting. Who Would Like This?
