Tung Oil

Tung Oil is an excellent interior and exterior wood finish for bare wood, countertops, flooring or Milk Painted pieces. It is one of our three food-safe finishes in our range. Our oil is unpolymerized and a natural drying oil, providing a tough, flexible and highly water-resistant coating. Perfect for furniture, countertops, interior and exterior wood surfaces. This oil provides a soft lustre with a finish that is unrivalled by many other oils. The oil saturates the wood, sealing it from moisture from within. You will never have chipping, flaking or peeling! At least 2 coats are recommended; however, the more coats, the more protection. You will want to recoat every few years as the wood starts to look dull and dry. Re-coating is simple and easy, as you will not have to sand or remove any peeling/flaking paint, just add oil, like a conditioner Tung oil can be used on all raw and properly prepped wooden surfaces. it is also a great finish to use over the top of Milk Paint, as the Milk Paint is porous, it absorbs into the paint, binding with it to provide a water-resistant, natural, tactile finish. It is also recommended for outdoor milk paint projects as it has slightly more water resistance than Hemp Oil. Thinning the oil with odourless solvent helps it penetrate the surface and speeds up the dry time. Subsequent coats can be full strength but must be wiped down after 15 minutes. Always allow ample drying time (48 hours+). Using it without the solvent, the dry time is longer. **If a solvent has been used to cut the Tung Oil, it is no longer a food-safe finish. HOW TO USE IT Our no rinse Fusion™ TSP Alternative is a water-based degreaser used to thoroughly clean a painted surface prior to applying paint. Highly efficient, it removes oil, grease, fingerprints, stains and other contaminants, which will improve the adhesion and the look of subsequent coatings. Mix 2 capfuls into 1L of water. Wash surface with mixture to remove dirt and grease. Keep washing the surface until your rag is no longer removing visible dirt or grease.  Rinsing is not required, however be sure to thoroughly clean your surface and change to a fresh clean rag as needed.  Application Tool  Brush, lint-free rag, applicator pad Location  Interior/Exterior Re-coat Time  Immediately if needed Top Coat  No additional top coat is required Clean Up  Odourless Solvent  Finish/Sheen  Matte to high sheen. Each additional layer and buffing increases the sheen.  Recommended Uses   Reclaimed wood, bare wood, table tops, floors, most any surface, painted finish or Milk Painted pieces.  Can Be Applied To   Use as a stain over raw or well-sanded wood; apply over painted surface for added sheen, glaze effect, or added protection; seal milk paint or other porous paint.  Can Be Painted Over  Once dried if over bare wood and only 1 coat applied, 10 days after for multiple coats applied. Test to ensure prior to tackling a full project. How to Prep  Apply over any surface or top coat for the desired effect except wax. Cure Time  10 Days Maintenance/ Cleaning  Light cleaners, as they will strip away the natural oil.
