Tuff Stuff Top Fun Hydrangea

Top Fun is the kind of hydrangea that lives up to its name—it’s bold, colorful, and just a little bit rebellious. This mountain hydrangea brings serious high-elevation attitude to the garden, with lacecap blooms that hover like fireworks over serrated deep green leaves. Expect rich purples, electric blues, or vivid pinks depending on your soil pH—and they’re not shy about showing off. Each bloom is edged like a watercolor painting, soft and stunning up close, but strong and eye-catching from across the yard. A compact shrub with big personality, ‘Top Fun’ tops out around 3-4 feet, making it a prime pick for the front of the border, foundation plantings, or even containers. Unlike some of its cousins, this hydrangea handles cold snaps and late frosts with surprising grace, making it a reliable bloomer even in zones where others might struggle. Because it’s a Hydrangea serrata, it tends to be a bit tougher and more refined than its macrophylla cousins—think mountain-born cool with a little extra charm. Its blooms attract pollinators, and its smaller size means it doesn’t need a big garden to make a big impact. Grow it in part sun (morning sun is ideal) and give it consistently moist, well-drained soil. With minimal pruning and a little care, ‘Top Fun’ will give you years of showy, changing color and undeniable garden style.
