triptych no. 4 - linen

“Traces, Erosions,” the new series by Luis-Ignacio Figallo, focuses on observing the subtle tectonic patterns found in weathered natural and urban landscapes. Transferring this inspiration through wood carving, each element and shape is carefully considered to form abstract compositions that are both ephemeral and earthy. The element of materiality is crucial in the work: the meticulous layering of the limewash paint creates subtle textures that allow the viewer to appreciate the nuances of light as it falls on the bas-reliefs. The use of muted tones throughout the series aims to encourage a peaceful response in the viewer, channeling qualities of transience, tranquility, and impermanence. BAS Atelier is a creative practice co-founded in 2021 by architect duo Luis Ignacio Figallo and Patrisa Pruthi, inspired by the ancient decorative technique of low or “bas” relief.
