Tree Hugger

Reclining oaks, pushed over by wind but still rooted, remind me of reclining Buddhas. Their generous space creates a biome of its own. I drew the tree from memory and imagination and began carving overlooking the field behind the house. The carving process takes many hours over the course of weeks, and I got to see all these inhabitants of the land. Every creature I saw I added into the piece on the spot. I had not planned to populate it so densely!  Linoleum Block Print on paper; printed on etching press with Gamblin oil-based ink and hand painted with Holbein watercolor. Sweetwater Picture Framing offers an archival fine art print of this work.
