Sonatina (Flute Alone) by Paul Somers, Published by Maurice River Press. “Sonatina for Unaccompanied Flute was composed for Janet Carol Schlein in 1968. We had become engaged, though she was still working at Cornell’s Olin Library and I had moved back to my childhood home with my parents in Westfield, NJ, as I set up a store-front piano teaching studio. So I decided to give her something for her alone. I must admit that the idea of writing a fugue for a solo flute was a quirky challenge I set for myself that after more than fifty years still makes me smile. We were married in June of 1969.” – Paul Somers
