The Windshear Downdraft is the only air mover here that dries a whole room without being moved. It sits in the middle of the floor on four casters, pulls the warm dry air down out of the ceiling space above it, and throws it out in a full circle across the floor in every direction at once. Tornado reckons an average room in as little as fifteen minutes. Every other fan on this page dries one direction at a time and has to be picked up and repositioned as it goes. 360° in one placement Set it down once in the middle of the room. No walking it around the perimeter, no working section by section, no coming back an hour later to move it. It uses the warm air upstairs The driest, warmest air in any room is at the ceiling. The Downdraft pulls that down and puts it to work on the wet floor, instead of pushing damp floor-level air sideways. 2.2 amps for 3,500 CFM A quarter-horsepower continuous-duty motor. Five of them will run on a single 15-amp circuit, which is unusual for a machine this size. What it does Four working positions cover the jobs a fan this shape can do. Face down on its casters it drives air straight at the floor and out in a circle — that is the whole-room mode. Tilted back on its molded legs it dries something raised off the ground. Stood upright on its handle it blows air across a room like a conventional mover. Tilted forward it pushes air along the floor in one direction. Then it stacks, four units high, for storage. Dries carpet, pad, hard floors, tile, concrete, upholstery and fresh paint Two speeds, 2,500 CFM on low and 3,500 CFM on high Six-blade precision-pitched fan, rated for continuous duty Rotationally molded polyethylene body — the thick, tough kind of plastic that survives being thrown in a van Four casters plus a telescoping handle so you wheel it rather than lift it 5-amp resettable circuit breaker on board 20 foot heavy 18/3 cord with a cord wrap moulded into the side Downdraft or sidedraft — they are opposite tools A sidedraft fan like the Windshear Sidedraft throws air out sideways in one direction, along the floor. That is what you want for drying a strip of carpet, a wall, drywall or fresh paint, and for lining several fans up to blanket a big open floor. A downdraft like this one blows down and out in every direction at once from a single spot. That is what you want when the wet area is one room and you would rather set a machine down and leave it than keep coming back to move it. It is 52 pounds, and there is no lifting it upstairs easily This is by far the heaviest machine in this category — more than twice the weight of the Windshear 3200. On a flat floor the casters do the work. Up a flight of stairs, on and off a truck, or in and out of a car, you will feel every pound of it. If your work involves a lot of carrying, buy a lighter fan. The Sidedraft is what you want for a long open floor where you line six fans up and chain them together. The 3200 is the light one you carry between jobs. All three are Tornado and all three are built to run all night; they just point the air in different directions. What does “downdraft” actually mean? The fan faces up and blows down. It draws the air from above the machine — the warmest, driest air in the room, because warm air rises — and pushes it down onto the floor, where it spreads out in a full circle. A normal air mover sits on the floor and blows sideways. How big a room will one dry? Tornado’s own figure is an average room in as little as fifteen minutes from a single placement. A large open floor or a long corridor is a different job — for that you want several directional fans lined up, and the Sidedraft is built for it. How many can I run on one circuit? At 2.2 amps each you can run five on a standard 15-amp circuit, allowing for the 12 amps you should actually plan on using. There are no outlets on the machine, though, so every unit needs its own socket — you cannot chain them the way you can chain Sidedrafts. Does it come with a wet floor sign? No. Tornado sells a safety sleeve sign for it as a separate accessory — call or text 888-565-6163 and we will price it. If you want a fan that arrives with its sign, that is the Windshear 3200 Safety Dryer. Can I leave it running overnight? Yes, the motor is rated for continuous duty and there is a 5-amp resettable breaker on board in case something overloads it. Set it in position and switch it on before you walk away, and never move it while the fan is turning. Does it stack? Four units high. That matters at this size — four of these standing separately would take a good part of a storage room. Can I use it as a plain fan? Yes, and the upright position is exactly that.
