Costoluto Fiorentino Tomato Seeds

Costoluto Fiorentino tomatoes, originating from Florence, Italy, are distinctive heirloom varieties cherished for their ribbed, deeply-lobed shape. This cultivar is renowned for its rich taste, making it a favorite among chefs and home gardeners alike. The plants boast a robust and sprawling nature, often needing staking or caging due to their vigorous growth. Their unique appearance—flattened, heavily ribbed, and somewhat irregular—adds a rustic charm to the garden. The fruit itself is a vibrant red hue with a scalloped profile, adding an ornamental touch to the vine as they mature. The taste of Costoluto Fiorentino tomatoes is complex, offering a well-balanced flavor profile—tart, slightly acidic, and mildly sweet. They are ideal for fresh slicing in salads, sandwiches, and pasta dishes. Their meaty texture also lends well to sauces and canning. For optimal growth, these tomatoes require well-draining, nutrient-rich soil, ample sunlight, and consistent watering. Planting from seed requires a start indoors before the last frost, providing a warm, sheltered environment until they develop into sturdy seedlings. Transplant them into the garden after the risk of frost has passed and the soil temperature remains consistently warm. Regular pruning and support for the sprawling vines ensure healthy growth and abundant fruiting. Adequate spacing between plants helps in air circulation and minimizes disease risk. With proper care, Costoluto Fiorentino tomatoes yield a bountiful harvest, rewarding gardeners with their exceptional flavor and ornamental appeal. Read Less
