Tintern Brocade | Cross & Eight-Pointed Star Liturgical Fabric

Tintern Brocade with Cross and Eight-Pointed Star Design A traditional liturgical brocade featuring a dense diaper lattice of crosses, eight-pointed stars, eagles, palmettes, and geometric ornament woven with metallic thread. Available in White/Gold, White/Silver, and Gold/Gold.  Tintern Brocade is a traditional ecclesiastical brocade fabric built around a dense geometric diaper pattern—a repeating diagonal lattice structure found throughout historic church textiles, medieval ornament, and sacred decorative arts. Large crosses and eight-pointed stars alternate throughout the repeat, creating a strong and ordered rhythm across the cloth. Smaller eagles, palmette fans, crosses, and geometric details fill the spaces between the principal motifs, leaving very little open ground and giving the fabric the richly ornamented appearance associated with traditional liturgical textiles. The eight-pointed star has long been used as a Christian symbol associated with the Nativity and Epiphany, making Tintern Brocade particularly appropriate for Christmas and the weeks following it. The eagle carries its own historic Christian symbolism and is especially associated with Saint John the Evangelist. Metallic yarn carries much of the design. As light moves across the fabric, the appearance changes: from one angle the pattern is quiet and restrained, while from another the crosses, stars, and surrounding ornament become dramatically illuminated. The structured geometric pattern makes Tintern especially effective for projects where a traditional, architectural look is preferred over a floral brocade. Three Colorways White / Gold Warm metallic gold woven against a white ground. A classic festal combination suitable for Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, weddings, ordinations, and other celebrations. White / Silver Silver metallic detailing against a clean white ground creates a cooler and more restrained appearance. An excellent choice for Easter, weddings, funerals, and churches that prefer silver ornamentation. Gold / Gold The richest of the three colorways. The tone-on-tone pattern reads almost as cloth of gold from a distance, while the diaper lattice, crosses, and stars become increasingly visible as the cloth catches the light. FAQ What is a diaper pattern? In textile design, a diaper is a repeating geometric pattern formed from a regular lattice or network of shapes. Tintern Brocade uses a diagonal geometric structure filled with crosses, stars, eagles, palmettes, and smaller decorative motifs. What does the eight-pointed star symbolize? The eight-pointed star has a long history in Christian art and is frequently associated with the Nativity and Epiphany. This symbolism makes Tintern Brocade especially appropriate for Christmas and Epiphany vestments and church furnishings. Is Tintern Brocade only for Christmas? No. Although the eight-pointed star makes it particularly appropriate for Christmas and Epiphany, the crosses and traditional geometric ornament allow Tintern Brocade to be used for Easter, weddings, ordinations, and other festal occasions. What can Tintern Brocade be used for? Tintern is suitable for chasubles, copes, dalmatics, stoles, orphreys, altar frontals, superfrontals, pulpit falls, lectern falls, chalice veils, burses, and other church furnishings. Which Tintern Brocade color should I choose? White/Gold is the traditional festal choice. White/Silver creates a cooler and more restrained appearance, while Gold/Gold provides the richest effect and can read much like cloth of gold from a distance.
