Timpanogos Town

5H, 1948 Story of Old Battle Creek and Pleasant Grove, UT by Howard R. Driggs Description Timpanogos Town is a historical nickname for the area now known as Pleasant Grove, Utah, originally called Battle Creek. The name reflects the region's deep ties to the Timpanogos people, a Native American tribe that inhabited much of central Utah, including the Utah Valley. The Timpanogos were known for their peaceful lifestyle, supported by the ample resources of the Provo River, and the area served as a traditional meeting place for the Ute and Shoshone tribes. In the mid-19th century, Mormon pioneers settled in the region, leading to conflicts such as the Battle Creek Massacre in 1849, where tensions over land and resources culminated in violence. The history and transformation of this area are chronicled in Howard R. Driggs' book, Timpanogos Town: Story of Old Battle Creek and Pleasant Grove, Utah, which offers insights into the early interactions between settlers and the indigenous Timpanogos people. Notes Burgundy hardback, intact, good condition.
