Oates 64 THE AUTHORS ADDITIONAL READING ACKNOWLEDGMENTS NOTES Log buildings, once common throughout Ohio, have fallen victim to neglect and to Front Cover progress. Now located at Caesar Creek Pioneer village, this saddle-bag house was reconstructed from two unrelated units-although it is likely that the same Quaker workmen built both structures in Warren County about 1819. When completed, the central chimney will extend beyond the roof line. Both structures, which combine half and full-dovetailed corners, were photographed in their original locations by Donald A. Hutslar and appear on pages 29 and 31. See: "Symbolism, Nostalgia, and Reality: Log Construction in 19th Century Ohio" W.G. Keener and C.S. Duckworth, Photographers
