Time Bokan - Red

Takashi Murakami - Time Bokan - Red The artwork by Takashi Murakami, Time Bokan, Red is an offset lithograph numbered and hand signed by the artist. The subject of the work refers to the anime series Time Bokan. Typical in the works of Takashi Murakami is, in fact, the inspiration that the artist draws from the Anime and Manga world. The episodes of the Time Bokan series used to end with the defeat of enemies that, exploding, caused the appearance of an anatomic cloud in the shape of skull. Singular is the addition of garlands. They are composed of smiling daisies, recurring subjects in the artist’s works, and they are placed inside the orbits of the skull. The lithograph Time Bokan, Red was made in 2001 and is a limited edition of 300. The world of Takashi Murakami: Manga and Superflat For Takashi Murakami, Manga and Superflat are an important source of inspiration. Bright colors and images of mass culture are typical elements in Murakami's works. The work is created according to the postmodern art movement founded by the artist: the Superflat. The artist uses the term Superflat to refer to the various flattened forms found in graphic art and the "superficial emptiness" of Japanese consumer culture. Takashi Murakami has succeeded in reconciling high art, that is, the kind of art destined for museums and collectors, with low art, which involves the production of mass-produced objects intended for mass consumption, in order to break down the boundary between elite and popular art.
