Thyroid

Research: Kelp: A Natural Source of Essential Nutrients Natural Source of Iodine Kelp, a type of seaweed, is a natural source of iodine, an essential mineral required for maintaining a healthy thyroid function. The thyroid depends on iodine to produce hormones that regulate metabolism and energy levels. Since the body cannot produce iodine, dietary sources such as kelp are necessary.* Supports a Healthy Thyroid Function Iodine from kelp contributes to the nourishment of the thyroid gland. Incorporating foods or supplements containing iodine like kelp can help promote balance and overall wellness.* Contains B Vitamins and Polysaccharides Kelp is also a source of B vitamins, which are important for energy metabolism and cellular health. Additionally, it contains polysaccharides, natural compounds that may support various bodily functions, including immune system health. This combination of nutrients makes kelp a valuable addition to a balanced diet.* Bugleweed: Supporting Thyroid Health and Balance Traditional Uses and Modern Applications Bugleweed (Lycopus virginicus), a member of the Lamiaceae family, is a bitter, aromatic herb with astringent properties. While traditionally it was thought to support a healthy immune system, modern applications focus on its potential role in supporting a healthy thyroid function.* Has Bioactive Compounds Bugleweed contains bioactive compounds such as rosmarinic acid, lithospermic acid, and chlorogenic acid. These naturally occurring compounds are being studied for their potential to support thyroid function. Tannins in the herb, like lycopin or lycopus, may help activate these acids, contributing to the herb's association with thyroid health.* Native and Nutrient-Dense Originating in Europe and native to North America, Bugleweed thrives in areas east of the Mississippi River. Its unique combination of compounds and traditional significance make it a notable herb for those seeking support for a balanced thyroid and overall wellness.* Black Walnut Hull: Supporting Thyroid Health Is a Source of Naturally Occurring Iodine Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) hulls are one of the few inland sources of naturally occurring iodine, a vital nutrient that supports healthy thyroid function.* Other Black Walnut Properties Black Walnut hulls are also a source of trace minerals essential for thyroid health. These minerals may contribute to the production of selenoproteins, which are known for their antioxidant properties and role in supporting thyroid function.* Essential Minerals for Thyroid Health In addition to iodine and selenium, Black Walnut hulls provide minerals like manganese, which are associated with maintaining overall thyroid balance and promoting proper function.*   The information provided above is for educational purposes only and does not pertain to the performance or intended use of any specific products featured on this website. *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Help Me Choose: What is a Thyroid Gland Understanding the Thyroid Gland The thyroid gland is a small, butterfly-shaped organ located at the front of the neck, just below the Adam's apple. It consists of two lobes connected by a thin tissue band called the isthmus, and it typically weighs less than an ounce. Despite its small size, the thyroid plays a crucial role in overall health by producing hormones that regulate many bodily functions.* Thyroid hormones are released into the bloodstream and delivered to every tissue in the body, supporting essential processes in various organs and systems. These hormones help regulate energy use, maintain body temperature, and many other natural body functions.* How Does the Thyroid Work? The thyroid is a gland that supports the body’s natural metabolic processes by producing hormones like thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones play a role in how efficiently the body uses energy, assist in protein production, and influence the body’s responsiveness to other hormones.* The thyroid’s activity is managed through a feedback loop, much like a thermostat regulating a heater’s output. Just as a heater relies on a fuel source, the thyroid utilizes iodine and other nutrients to maintain its normal function.* The information provided above is for educational purposes only and does not pertain to the performance or intended use of any specific products featured on this website. *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
