Thrive Bioactive Substrate Kit - Bioactive Reptile Substrate

DESCRIPTION Preparing a terrarium that mimics your reptile's natural environment found in the wild begins with choosing the appropriate substrate, and this Thrive Bioactive Substrate Kit provides you with just that. Substrate is the foundation of their habitat, and the most important component of a reptile's environment. A bioactive setup with proper water drainage, bioactive soil, and live plants allows you to introduce microfauna like isopods, that reuse and recycle nutrients within the habitat. This creates a self-maintaining and self-sustaining mini ecosystem. It requires less upkeep and gives your reptile the most realistic environment to thrive. Only at PetSmart. Features: Includes 4 substrate components to replicate a realistic tropical environment Each layer works together to create a self-sustaining & ideal habitat for your reptile Helps filter and recycle animal waste, plant decay, and other matter into nutrients 100%natural & safeIncludes: Magnolia Leaves: Realistic ground cover to mimic natural environment Bioactive Soil (ABG Mix): IOACTIVE SOIL (ABG MIX) Blend of horticultural charcoal, milled sphagnum moss, orchid bark, bioactive soil, and coco peatFilter Fabric: Non-toxic fine screen mesh allows air & water to pass throughLava Rock: Acts as a drainage layer Intended Pet(s): Ideal for Crested Geckos, Anoles, Chameleons, Iguanas, Green Tree Pythons, Ball Pythons, Green Tree Frogs, and Pacman FrogsColor: Brown, BlackProduct Dimensions: Ideal for Terrarium Size: 18 in L x 18 in W x 36 in H (45.7 x 45.7 x 91.4 cm)Product Weight: 17 lbs (7.71 kg)How to Layer Your Substrate: LAVA ROCK: The foundation of your habitat&339;s bioactive setup, lava rock is a helpful drainage layer because it: Catches excess water that flows through the soil. Prevents soil from becoming oversaturated which could compromise the growth of healthy microfauna and destabilize the humidity in the terrarium. This layer should have a depth of around 2 inches.FILTER FABRIC: This non-toxic fine screen mesh creates a barrier between the drainage layer and the soil. It is a vital component of the bioactive terrarium because it: Allows ventilation without letting soil through Keeps the soil from soaking up too much waterBIOACTIVE SOIL: This soil mix is a long-lasting blend of horticultural charcoal, milled sphagnum moss, orchid bark, bioactive soil, and coco peat. Unlike single ingredient substrate, each component of this mix plays its own role in supporting your terrarium's self-maintaining ecosystem, by: Resisting compaction Providing excellent drainage Supporting moisture and nutrient retention This soil mix provides an ideal environment for growing live plants and hosting isopods that will help break down waste, leaflitter, and other debris.MAGNOLIA LEAVES: As the top layer of your substrate, magnolia leaves provide a handful of benefits: Camouflage Shade Shelter to smaller inhabitants These leaves will begin to decay over time, breaking down and supplying nutrients to the live plants, isopods, and microfauna that work hard to recycle waste back into the soil. Magnolia leaves also help support humidity while adding a realistic touch to your terrarium.Caution: Always wash your hands after handling a pet or cleaning a habitat. Keep out of reach of children. Never use soap or detergent on any items placed in our terrarium, as they are highly toxic to pets.
