Thomas & Thomas Contact III Technical Nymphing Fly Rod

Contact III+ Series The Contact III+ represents Thomas & Thomas's most significant advancement in technical nymphing rod design, engineered specifically for modern fly fishing techniques. This fully redesigned third-generation rod combines proven Contact series performance with breakthrough innovations that set it apart from standard offerings. Built with a proprietary 100% pure carbon composite, the Contact III+ delivers a lighter, thinner-diameter blank that reduces air resistance and wind drift while enabling faster recovery and longer, more accurate casts with minimal effort. Enhanced blank damping virtually eliminates tip bounce, providing immediate fly connection and superior sensitivity on the water. The dual-tip system—included on all models except the 6-weight—gives you genuine versatility. The new solid carbon tip excels with micro leaders, small flies, and dry-dropper presentations, offering exceptional bite detection and tippet protection ideal for competition and close-range Euro-nymphing. The traditional tubular tip handles heavier flies and jig streamers while providing superior support for weight-forward lines. Specific models are precision-tuned for distinct demands: the 1002 and 1092 optimize smaller flies and lighter rigs, while the new 1153 delivers increased sensitivity for long-line applications. All models retain the powerful backbone needed to confidently hook and land large fish. Premium Flor cork grips, gunmetal light-wire guides, and matte black downlocking hardware complete a rod built for anglers who demand precision and performance. Thomas & Thomas backs every Contact III+ with streamlined warranty service—broken tips are replaced within one week with just a photo and serial number. Features: All models except Contact III+ 1086 will come with two tips, one tubular tip and one solid tip.   Premium Flor grade cork grips with ¼” composite nose increases feel and bite transmission. Matte black downlocking hardware updated with two locking nuts, complemented with T&T’s trademark roll-stamped logo and burled wood spacer.  Gunmetal light wire single foot running guides, with one nickel titanium bendable snake guide under the tip top to reduce line wrap. On 10’ 9” and 11’5” models, the guide sizing has been reduced to increase line control.  The added number of guides on the rod reduce line sag.  The 10’ models have appropriately sized guides for weight forward fly lines.   Black double foot high frame stripping guide provides a more acute angle from stripping guide to reel to reduce drag when the rod is under load.  The stripping guide has been further lowered on the rod in order to reduce sag.   Insect green and goldenrod thread wraps. Black hook keeper and winding check. Contact III+ 1086 has a full wells grip, this rod does not come with solid tip. This rod is primarily designed for migratory fish.   Model Rod Weight Reel Balance range (unloaded weight) Tippet Range Overhead Line Wt.  10'2wt 81g / 2.86oz 113 - 133g / 4.0 - 4.7oz 4x-8x WF2F or Comp Line 10'3wt 84g / 2.96oz 116 - 136g / 4.1 - 4.8oz 3x-7x WF3F 10'9" 2wt 86g / 3.03oz 130 - 156g / 3.2 - 5.2oz 4x-8x WF2F 10'9" 3wt 88g / 3.10oz 130 - 156g / 4.6 - 5.5oz 3x-7x WF3F 10'9" 4wt 90g / 3.15oz 133 - 159g / 4.7 - 5.6oz 2x - 6x WF4F 11'5" 3wt 93g / 3.23oz 133 - 159g / 4.7 - 5.6oz 3x-8x WF3F  10'8" 6wt 138g / 4.9oz 155 - 200g / 5/5 - 7.0oz 0x-4x WF6F
