Thomas Kosmala No 4

No 4 — also known as Après l'Amour, French for "after love" — is Thomas Kosmala's signature release and the fragrance that put the niche house on the map. Launched in 2018 and created by Thomas Kosmala, described by the brand as capturing "the erotic energy and languorous mood of skin meeting skin" — a warm, intimate, woody aromatic built around a powerful molecular base that radiates like few fragrances can. The opening brings bitter orange and lemon zest with citrusy brightness, quickly joined by aromatic spices that add warmth and depth without going heavy or culinary. As it settles, the heart unfolds into a clean, skin-like muskiness with a crisp, almost ozonic quality — think sun-warmed skin rather than heavy perfume. The dry-down is a dry woody, salty-sweet ambroxan that smells sterilized and crisp, with a faint but recognizably tart lemony accord. Projection and longevity are above-average — most wearers report 8 to 10 hours on skin, and the sillage is genuinely remarkable. Some reviewers report truly insane projection — one noted their brother asked "what on earth did you just spray?" from 35-40 feet away within seconds. This is not a subtle fragrance in performance, though it wears close and intimate in character. A little goes a long way. Community comparisons most frequently land on Baccarat Rouge 540 and Le Labo Another 13 — No 4 has a very different drydown from BR540, with much more musk, and it leans warmer and more skin-like than Another 13's mineral coolness. Performance can vary by batch, which is exactly why sampling first is the smart move — if you get a strong batch, this is one of the most complimented and longest-lasting niche releases under $200.
