The Tear Catcher

The Tear Catcher was inspired by one of the most haunting objects associated with Victorian mourning culture—the lacrymatory bottle, said to hold the tears of grief itself. Long, delicate, and almost surgical in appearance, this sterling silver piece was designed to feel like a forgotten mourning relic unearthed from a velvet-lined drawer. Elegant in its restraint, but heavy with symbolism. Part history, part folklore, the Tear Catcher serves as a quiet reminder that humans have always searched for ways to preserve love long after loss. Every necklace arrives inside an embossed magnetic-close Seance jewelry box with its accompanying story card tucked safely inside. ──────────────────── The Tear Catcher Victorian tear catchers—often called “lachrymatory” bottles—were said to be used to collect the tears of grief during periods of mourning. Rooted in both ancient lore and revived through 19th-century fascination with symbolism, these delicate vessels became associated with love, loss, and remembrance. Some believed the bottle was sealed and buried once the tears had dried, marking the end of mourning; others saw them as keepsakes of devotion, holding sorrow as something sacred rather than fleeting. Whether historical fact or romantic myth, they endure as a haunting emblem of grief made tangible. ──────────────────── A perfect piece for lovers of Victorian mourning jewelry, funeral relics, romantic symbolism, and beautiful objects touched by sorrow.
