The Refined Home: Sheldon Harte

This gorgeous book spotlights California-based interior designer Sheldon Harte, whose vision is that true luxury lies in the interconnection of form and function―and the finest works of art. Sheldon Harte, founder of Harte Davis Interior Design, is renowned for creating luxurious, livable interiors – from estates, apartments, and family compounds to beach houses, wine-country retreats, and historical renovations. Since he began his career in 1984, his ability to work in any style and tailor each home to the client’s aesthetic preferences and way of life has made him a sought-after designer for California’s elite and beyond. Blending comfort with sophistication, he creates bespoke spaces that are both artistic and inviting for a devoted clientele, many of whom turn to him again and again. The Refined Home: Sheldon Harte explores his inspiring philosophy of transforming interiors into works of art. With chapters like “Sensual Surfaces,” “Breaking with Tradition,” “Modernist Masterpiece,” and “Mid-Century Dream,” authors Mitchell Owens and Hadley Keller offer an exciting, behind-the-scenes look at his design process, emphasizing the importance of custom artisanship and evocative art. Illustrated with exquisite images by notable photographers, including Douglas Friedman, Trevor Tondro, Björn Wallander, and John Merkl, The Refined Home showcases Harte’s most significant projects, revealing how he balances his artistic vision with his clients' individual tastes and lifestyle.
