From the Introduction Through the voices of Myanmar citizens, The People Demand Democracy: Voices of the Myanmar Spring Revolution documents how the military coup d’état in 2021 resulted in a brutal campaign of repression against the Myanmar people. It also documents the growth of The Spring Revolution, a nationwide campaign to restore political and human rights in the nation. After reading this book, we hope you will take up the call of the final voice featured: “Spread what we are feeling and what is happening in Myanmar to your other friends, then your friends will tell other friends, and eventually the whole world will know and cannot ignore the situation we are in.”  What People Are Saying “When the military undertook the coup d’état against the democratically elected government in Myanmar, the soldiers raided my house that very night, but I was not at home. I was at my mother’s house conducting Buddhist rituals for her recent passing. A late-night 3 a.m. text message saying “Run” alerted me to what had happened. I immediately left my mother’s house and went into hiding for the next three months.”                          —Myo Yan Naung Thein
