The Mary

Mary Papanicolaou, wife to George Papanicolaou, actively contributed to the early development of the Pap smear by serving as her husband’s first and most consistent test subject.  Over many years, she underwent hundreds to thousands of cervical sampling exams, helping George Papanicolaou refine his technique and better understand normal versus abnormal cells.  Her willingness to repeatedly participate in these early, unproven procedures was instrumental in transforming the Pap smear into one of the most effective cancer screening tools in medicine. We believe you shouldn’t have to choose between comfort and confidence.  Lilac Market Headbands were born from the frustration of headbands that slipped, squeezed, or just didn’t last. So we thoughtfully designed one that actually works — and feels as good as it looks.  Each piece is handcrafted in Springfield, Missouri using our signature buttery-soft, ultra-stretch fabric that gently hugs without pulling. The double-layer construction absorbs sweat and stays in place, while the 3-in-1 twist design lets you switch up your look effortlessly. Wear it to your toughest workout, your longest shift, or your everyday moments — because real life deserves accessories that keep up.
